Job Summary
As an Environmental Technician, you will be responsible for assisting with field projects, conducting data collection using compass, GPS, and maps, performing environmental assessments, monitoring water quality, and preparing reports. You will be ensuring compliance with environmental protection planning and construction activities.
Responsibilities
•Gathering data using compasses, GPS devices, and maps.
•Conducting assessments on scopes, fish, wetlands, wildlife, and health.
•Monitoring and maintaining water quality standards.
•Compiling and submitting reports by set deadlines.
•Adhering to established protocols for computerized reporting.
•Developing plans for environmental protection initiatives.
•Supervising construction activities to ensure environmental compliance.
•Conducting environmental checks after construction completion.
•Exhibiting proficiency in GIS and remote sensing technologies.
Qualifications
•High School Diploma. Recognized diploma course or post-secondary degree in environmental science, chemistry, biology, forestry, or related discipline is an asset.
•Minimum of 6 months of clean and stable career history in the environmental or natural resource field or related experience.
•Class 5 BC Driver's License.
•Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test.
•The job is physically demanding, requiring essential physical fitness and stamina to withstand prolonged standing, walking, lifting, and camping in diverse environmental conditions.
•Confident working in adverse weather conditions and remote bush locations.
•Proficiency in GIS and remote sensing.
•Ability to travel 10 days per month.
•Strong understanding of the Gitxsan region, terrain, culture, and history is highly beneficial.
•Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
•Proficiency in computer skills for data entry, manipulation, and retrieval.
•Environmental Mapping training, ATV/UTV Operators Certificate is an asset.
