Travel: Regional day trips, and periodic multi-day trips throughout Western Canada
We’re looking for an experienced Wastewater Flow Monitoring Technician to plan, install, commission, and maintain temporary and permanent metering sites for municipal and industrial clients. You’ll work hands-on in the field (manholes, chambers, lift stations), ensure data quality end-to-end, and collaborate with our project managers, data analysts, and client ops teams.
- Plan & prep: Site surveys, hazard assessments, TCPs, CSE permits; kit staging and pre-calibration.
- Install & commission: Area-velocity, level, and pressure sensors; rain gauges; bubblers; ultrasonic depth sensors; weirs/flumes; samplers; data loggers/RTUs/telemetry.
- Calibrate & verify: Bench/field verifications, bar checks, level-to-flow curves, 2-point checks; document as-builts.
- Maintain & troubleshoot: Power, comms, fouling, debris/FOG, offsets, submergence; swap sensors and restore uptime.
- Data quality: Daily/weekly health checks; flag anomalies (surcharging, backwater, zero-velocity, spikes); coordinate QA/QC with analysts.
- Safety leadership: Confined Space Entry best practices, gas monitoring, rescue readiness, lockout/isolation, and clean site handoffs.
- Client communication: Clear field notes, photos, redlines; quick updates on issues/ETAs; professional on-site presence.
- Tools & inventory: Keep trucks, meters, consumables, and spares organized and inspection-ready.
Tech You Know (or can learn quickly)
- Meters & sensors: ISCO/Teledyne, Hach, Greyline, SonTek, Telog/Trimble, Blue Siren, SmartCover (or similar).
- Primary devices: Weirs (V-notch/rectangular), Palmer-Bowlus/Parshall flumes.
- Comms/telemetry: Cellular RTUs, modems, VPNs/APNs, SCADA/Historian basics.
- Field tools: Coring/anchors, Hilti/hammer drills, confined-space tripods, ventilation, gas monitors.- 5+ years in wastewater flow monitoring, sewer collections, water resources, or related instrumentation.
- Solid grasp of open-channel hydraulics and how install quality impacts data.
- Confident with confined space entry, gas detection, and traffic control in ROWs.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather; able to lift 50 lb and handle ladders/tripods.
- Strong documentation habits; clear communicator; calm under time pressure.
- Driver’s licence (Class 5 or equivalent) and clean abstract.
Nice to Have (or we’ll help you get there)
- Valid CSE, Fall Protection, TCP, WHMIS, OFA-1 (or provincial equivalents).
- Experience with chemical dosing skids, samplers, or temporary bypass setups.
- Basic scripting/Excel for data checks; GIS/mobile work apps (Collector/Field Maps).What Success Looks Like (first 90 days)
- Safely leads a two-person install crew on standard AV+level sites.
- Zero lost-time incidents; permits and field docs are complete and timely.
- Uptime ≥ 98% on assigned meters; clean daily health-check notes; actionable flags to PM/analyst.
- Positive feedback from at least two client site contacts.
