The Environmental Compliance Technician at Mustang Special Utility District plays a crucial role in ensuring the company adheres to all regulations and standards set forth by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding water quality and safety. The primary responsibilities include collecting and delivering required water samples for analysis, identifying potential compliance issues in the system, working with other departments at Mustang, and maintaining accurate records for regulatory reporting and inspections.
- Bacteriological Sampling: Collect monthly bacteriological samples for Mustang and Gunter HQ and deliver them to the City of Sherman or City of Denton Laboratory for analysis. Practice safe collecting procedures to avoid repeat samples or initiating a boil water notice.
- Bacteriological Special Samples: Collect bacteriological “Special Samples” within 24 hours in case of a main break. Help determine if a Boil Water Notice is necessary, submit an Immediate Notification, and collect the required samples.
- Chemical Analysis: Collect Water Quality Parameters and Lead and Copper samples according to the TCEQ annual schedule. Collect EPA UCMR5 samples and deliver them to respective laboratories.
- Backflow Device Management: Assist the Customer Service Inspector, as needed, with tracking customer backflow devices, performing disconnects/reconnects, testing backflow devices rented to construction crews, and notifying customers of backflow procedures.
- Dead-End Flushing and Testing: Must take care of all the monthly Dead-End flushing in our water system. Occasionally assist the water production team with flushing water mains and taking NAPs.
- Project Support & Documentation: Provide support to the Regulatory Compliance and Support Director, as well as the Environmental Compliance Coordinator, by assisting with projects beyond routine responsibilities. Maintain thorough records of all collected samples and ensure monthly bacteriological results are accurately printed, filed, and used in preparation of CCI’s.
- Required: A High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- Required:A general understanding of basic construction hand tools and water systems is beneficial.
- Preferred: Additional training in water systems or environmental compliance is preferred.
- Required:Must obtain a TCEQ Class “D” Water License within (1) one year of employment. Pursue a TCEQ Class “C” Water License (Groundwater or Distribution) within (4) four years or before the “D” license expires and participate in continuing education to maintain licensure.
- Preferred: Class “C” Water License.
- Continuous Learning: Participate in training programs to stay updated with regulatory changes and best practices in water quality management.
- Indoor and Outdoor Work: This involves working both indoors and outdoors, often in inclement weather conditions. Adaptability to various environmental conditions is required.
- Fieldwork: Conduct inspections and perform physical tasks involving activities like walking, climbing, and handling equipment.
- Safety Gear: To ensure safety during fieldwork, wear protective gear such as safety shoes, gloves, and hard hats.
- Flexible Hours: May need to work outside regular hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, to meet inspection demands and respond to emergencies.
- Must have a valid Class "C" Driver's License before employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license within 30 days of hire per state law).
- Must pass a drug test, driver’s license check, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.
