JOB SUMMARY
Provides expertise in environmental policies, programs and regulatory compliance, supporting the Environment Manager to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental laws, regulations and standards. Evaluates environmental impacts on capital and maintenance projects, including collaborating on environmental permits and supporting environmental reporting and compliance activities. Conducts environmental assessments of proposed projects for potential environmental implications including waste disposal, equipment recycling, asbestos abatement, protected species impact and potential permitting requirements. Researches and analyzes complex environmental regulations and conditions and provides creative, effective solutions to environmental and permitting issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures corporate environmental compliance by assisting with the implementation and ongoing refinement of pollution abatement initiatives, environmental management policies, procedures and training modules
Tracks and reports emissions, energy use and other data and develops environmental reports.
Reviews engineering construction plans to determine if pollution controls are adequate and provides technical support for installing and maintaining pollution control equipment.
Advises operating and maintenance team members concerning the organization's environmental policies and objectives and assists in determining and implementing corrective action as needed.
Works with the permitting team to eliminate and minimize impacts and permitting requirements where possible and ensure permit compliance.
Assesses and resolves ecological, wetland, protected species, soil erosion and sediment control; and other environmental concerns relating to construction, maintenance and operation of our transmission systems.
Coordinates ecological assessments and surveys for vegetation management and maintenance activities.
Coordinates environmental services including waste disposal, electrical equipment recycling, industrial maintenance activities and emergency response spill cleanup.
Assists with environmental and health and safety audits, manages environmental records and develops Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plans.
Manages and develops relationships with multiple environmental contractors, establishes a detailed understanding of their work to ensure quality and value.
Deploys best and innovative practices and technologies to achieve efficiencies and savings.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor of science degree in environmental science, engineering or relevant, equivalent experience and/or education.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL:
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the environmental field; experience with construction management or in the utility industry preferred
SENIOR LEVEL:
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the environmental field; experience with construction management or in the utility industry preferred
Strong oral and written communication skills, able to work with cross-functional teams is a necessity.
Ability to analyze and understand complex challenges and effectively communicate and present professionally (verbally and in writing) information to all levels internally and externally.
Proficient with typical business technology tools as well as environmental and regulatory tools and methods.
