Environmental Specialist 1 or 2

•This job requires frequent travel between the Stillwater Mine and the East Boulder Mine to complete job responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
At Sibanye-Stillwater, the Environmental Specialist 1 or 2 is responsible for performing all aspects of sampling, monitoring, testing, recordkeeping, and reporting required to maintain compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, and permits governing the groundwater, process, and surface water monitoring process(s) at both the Stillwater and East Boulder Mines.
The Environmental Specialist 1 or 2's primary duties are:

•Provide technical support to assist operational personnel in the development of programs and projects.
•Trains and mentors coworkers, employees, and contractors on environmental standards as well as proactive safety.
•Understand costs associated with scope of work to ensure decisions align with business needs.
•Able to implement ground, process, and surface water monitoring systems including operations, basic maintenance, communication systems, and data entry analysis.
•Accountable for database for water quality data for groundwater and surface water monitoring.
•Monitoring and analyzing trends in site water quality performance.
•Recognizing, troubleshooting, documenting, and communicating issues related to monitoring wells and sampling equipment.
•Inventory management of sampling chemicals, materials, and supplies.
•Management, preventative maintenance, work orders, and repairs as needed.
•Technical writing associated with operating manuals, SOP's, and reports.
•Interaction with surface and underground operations on ground and surface water quality related issues.
•Assist in implementation of improvements to water monitoring systems (testing & pilot studies).
•Extended hours or call outs during plant upsets or emergency situations.
•Other duties as assigned.
•Maintaining operational records in accordance with company and department SOP's and Policies.
•Complete and document environmental sampling, monitoring, and data collection associated with Sibanye Stillwater's environmental programs including soil sampling, water monitoring, air monitoring, and others.
•Conduct and document environmental inspections.
•Evaluate data and prepare operational reports and graphs, using knowledge gained from increasing experience.
•Able to develop and present to site leadership, corporate leadership, and other site(s) on specific projects or other environmental processes.
Qualifications and Skills:
•Good verbal and written communication skills.
•Technical writing Skills.
•Willingness to work outside in varying weather conditions and underground on occasion.
•Proven ability to work autonomously, as well as, within a team-based environment.
•Ability to travel between mine sites as needed to complete work scope.
•Ability to read, understand and follow Federal, State and Local regulations and permits.
•Knowledge of water quality sampling procedures and environmental compliance issues.
•Proficient in computer skills including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and database applications.
•Experience working within ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems preferred.
•Understanding of MSHA regulations preferred.
Education & Experience
BS, or Technical Degree in environmental, or related field preferred and/or a minimum of 1 year of practical environmental experience related to environmental monitoring and sampling.
