Position Overview

BLOC Resources is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Specialist 1 to support environmental compliance, regulatory initiatives, and sustainability efforts for infrastructure and energy-related projects.

This entry-to-mid level role is ideal for candidates with a strong academic foundation and early career experience in environmental science, biology, or related fields. The Environmental Specialist will assist in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, conducting field sampling, and supporting environmental monitoring programs.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, analytical, and comfortable working both in the field and in an office setting, with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and safety.


Key Responsibilities


Environmental Compliance & Regulatory Support

- Assist in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations

- Support environmental permitting processes and regulatory documentation

- Maintain accurate records and documentation for audits and inspections

- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure environmental standards are met across projects


Field Sampling & Monitoring

- Perform environmental sampling including water quality, soil, and biological assessments

- Assist with field investigations such as site assessments, ecological surveys, and environmental monitoring programs


- Operate and maintain environmental sampling equipment

- Support data collection, validation, and reporting of environmental results


Sustainability & Environmental Initiatives

- Assist with implementation of sustainability programs and environmental best practices

- Identify opportunities to minimize environmental impact across operations and projects

- Support internal environmental reporting and performance tracking


Stakeholder Collaboration

- Work closely with internal departments, contractors, and regulatory agencies

- Assist in coordinating environmental activities and field operations


- Communicate findings and support environmental recommendations


Data Analysis & Reporting

- Compile and analyze environmental data to support decision-making

- Prepare reports, summaries, and documentation for environmental studies

- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all environmental records



Required Qualifications


Education

- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field (required)


Experience

- 1–5 years of experience in environmental sampling, compliance, or related field

- Experience with biological studies, water quality assessments, or environmental monitoring preferred



Required Skills & Competencies


Technical Knowledge

- Basic understanding of environmental regulations and permitting processes (federal, state, and local)

- Familiarity with environmental sampling techniques and data collection methods

- Knowledge of environmental compliance standards and reporting practices


Field & Operational Skills

- Experience operating boats or watercraft is preferred

- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions

- Willingness to travel locally for fieldwork as needed


Analytical & Problem-Solving


- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

- Ability to interpret environmental data and identify trends or issues

- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality


Communication & Teamwork


- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Work Environment


- Combination of field and office-based work

- Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions

- May involve travel to project sites and use of boats or field equipment

- Safety-sensitive role requiring adherence to all environmental and safety protocols


Job Title: Environmental Specialist 1

Location: 744 County Road, Calera, AL 35040 Pay Rate / Range: $25.00 – $27.20 per hour Contract Duration: 12 Months (with potential for extension) Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, standard business hours (with occasional extended hours and fieldwork as needed)
