Job Summary

Under direction of the General Manager, the incumbent will provide complete environmental services for the Kettle River Operations (KRO). Incumbent will work with internal leaders and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with company, local, state, and federal requirements and shall conduct all activities in a safe manner and in alignment with Kinross’ values.


Job Responsibilities

Develop and implement environmental business practices and policies that align with the organization’s overall strategy.

Ensure all operations, construction, exploration and oversight activities are managed in conformance and compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and standards.
Lead, manage, and oversee all environmental aspects across multiple KRO locations.
Develop, implement, and manage multi-facility environmental permitting and programs to ensure compliance.
Conduct routine site regulatory planning, reporting and oversight of activities for reclamation, closure, site investigation, baseline studies, design, planning, implementation, and execution.
Strategic planning and interaction with key stakeholders, including community, governmental and non-governmental agencies.
Work closely with legal counsel and external affairs specialists to effectively manage regulatory and stakeholder risk.
Develop an environmental risk strategy for KRO sites, including short and long-term risk mitigation plans, with the overall goal of reducing and minimizing liability.
Stay informed about new and pending regulatory changes and adjust management systems as needed.
Establish budgets and monitor and report on implementation and forecasts.
Engage and manage expert consultants and contractors as required to meet objectives.
Develop succession plans and provide personnel with coaching to ensure development plans align with staffing needs.
Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to, safety, environmental, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
Prepare, update, and maintain records and reports as required for decision making, reporting, and to ensure compliance with regulations, plans, and commitments.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, natural/environmental resources, hydrogeology or related science/engineering field.

Formal professional or technical registration in an appropriate area of expertise preferred.
Knowledge and experience with local, state and federal regulatory framework. Washington State experience preferred.
8+ years of relevant work experience. 5+ years working in a supervisor role.
Understanding of regulatory compliance management and reporting.
Experience with relevant environmental disciplines (i.e. TRI, CERCLA, RCRA, CAA, CWA, etc.) ,
Leading varied projects with shifting deadlines and requirements, including consultant, contractor, and project management.
Proven ability to effectively mobilize and lead teams during high-pressure situations and crisis management actions.
Demonstrate collaboration and communication with varied stakeholder groups (e.g., employees, regulatory agencies, community leaders, indigenous groups, corporate executives) to build relationships and strategies.
Apply strategic thinking and analysis to solve complex problems and generate innovative solutions.
Target setting and measurement/monitoring of progress against goals.
Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, analytical, presentation and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
Proficiency in personal computer (PC) usage, including the Microsoft Office Suite software and Teams.
General understanding of underground mining, milling and maintenance operations.
Ability to work both independently and as a member of the team.
Must obtain and maintain a valid Passport and state driver’s license.
Position is based in Republic, Washington, but includes travel to other site locations and for stakeholder interactions.
Field work required in remote areas and through all seasons.
