Environmental Coordinator (Power Plants)

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking an Environmental Coordinator with technical skills, knowledge, and expertise in environmental regulatory requirements associated with electric power generation facilities. In this role, you will collect, review, edit, validate, and track data to ensure our power plant operations and emissions are compliant with environmental permits and regulations.

A day in the life of an Environmental Coordinator may include :

Overseeing and coordinating various regulatory programs at industrial facilities, including continuous emissions monitoring, waste management, and asbestos assessment
Implementing Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) quality assurance procedures
Installing, relocating, replacing, maintaining, adjusting, calibrating, troubleshooting, and repairing monitoring and data recording equipment for CEMS
Evaluating CEMS instrumentation and technological changes for necessary upgrades to meet regulatory requirements
Reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting environmental data for air quality, stack emissions, and underground storage tanks
Coordinating and conducting field sampling and analysis of industrial waste and/or unknown materials
Implementing required permits or plans and reviewing for necessary modifications
Conducting Method 9 opacity observations
Coordinating field stack testing activities, including RATA, mercury, and other air emissions testing
Conducting field inspections related to Underground Storage Tank requirements and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure plan components
Managing files and evaluating environmental records to ensure compliance with permit and regulatory requirements
Responding to inquiries and providing information regarding environmental program requirements, details, and specifications
Representing industrial facilities on relevant programs during audits and regulatory inspections


Who You Are:

Experience in an environmental regulatory capacity, preferably around power generation and clean energy
Experience in the design and operation of environmental technical systems, preferably with CEMS in the power generation industry
Possession of EPA Method 9 certification is valued, or the ability to obtain it within one (1) year of hire
An associate’s degree in environmental science, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field is valued
Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license is required
