Reporting to the Manager, Environment & Regulatory, the Environmental Coordinator will support environmental management programs at Greenfire’s oil sands operations in Northeast Alberta. This role requires a proactive, detail-oriented individual with a strong background in environmental compliance, data analysis, and project coordination. The incumbent will play a key role in ensuring that the company meets or exceeds environmental and regulatory standards, commitments and obligations.
· Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of environmental data related to air, water, soil, and biodiversity, including the management of third-party contractors.
· Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards, preparing environmental reports as required by provincial and federal regulators.
· Maintain and update environmental monitoring systems, tracking performance against targets and environmental regulations.
· Mentor and advise company personnel on environmental compliance issues related to the project exploration, design, construction, operations, and closure phases.
· Conduct internal environmental audits and assessments to ensure compliance with permits and standards.
· Attend stakeholder/regional initiative committee meetings to obtain information on the latest industry trends, and then communicate it throughout the organization, as required.
· Assist in preparing and reviewing environmental assessments for new projects and expansions.
· Evaluate the environmental impact of existing operations and recommend mitigation strategies.
· Contribute to the development and execution of environmental management plans and programs.
· Work with internal teams to develop and implement sustainability programs that support the company's environmental and corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals.
· Track the performance of sustainability programs, providing data-driven insights for continuous improvement.
· Foster a culture of environmental responsibility across the workforce by ensuring awareness of key environmental issues and regulations.
· Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
· Certifications in environmental management or related disciplines (e.g., Environmental Professional designation) are considered an asset.
· 5 to 10 years of experience in an environmental coordinator or environmental management role within the oil and gas or natural resources industry.
· Experience with regulatory compliance and environmental reporting in Alberta is highly desirable.
· Knowledge of the oil sands industry, specifically in situ operations and environmental management in the region, is preferred.
· Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, including those specific to Alberta and the oil sands sector.
· Proficiency in environmental monitoring tools and software (e.g., GIS, environmental data management systems).
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex environmental data and trends.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and deliver presentations to diverse stakeholders.
· Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
