to provide line construction and maintenance for the Corporation’s distribution system and to train in the construction, operation, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities
Due to mandated safety requirements, anyone who operates weight-restricted aerial lifts (e.g. a bucket truck) and who must use retrieval systems during the performance of their tasks must maintain a weight of 290 pounds or less - fully dressed, including work boots. What you will be doing The following are major responsibilities of this position. They are not intended to cover each aspect of the position as the scope and duties may change or be temporarily altered based on the current business needs of the Company. The basic requirement of every position is to perform all tasks as assigned by the reporting authority.

- Operate all vehicles in accordance with federal, state and local laws.
- Visually check lines, poles, insulators, transformers, service entrances, rights-of-way, etc. for damages or unsafe conditions and report same to immediate supervisor.
- Cut right-of-way and perform landscaping, concrete, and asphalt repairs, as required.
- Inspect, service, and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment daily.
- Advise immediate supervisor of maintenance needs on tools, vehicles, and other equipment.
- Assist in handling emergencies and outages as directed.
- Train to perform routine line work underground and overhead construction, line maintenance, and electrical service.
- Operate truck and assist in loading and unloading material. Properly secure all material when loading.
- Check material in and out of warehouse. Retire old line and facilities.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of current jobs and anticipate needs of Linemen and First-Class Linemen.
- Send tools and materials up pole with approved hand line and other equipment.
- Properly make up, on the ground, conductor dead end assemblies for Linemen.
- Set up reels and help string wire.
- Bore holes, frames and install poles according to specifications.
- Dig trenches and drive in ground rods.
- String, sag, and install armor rods and ties on conductors of all sizes and types on de-energized primary poles and de-energized circuits for training purposes.
- Install and connect transformers, fuse cut-outs, arrestors, switches, and oil cir-cuit reclosures on de-energized structures for training purposes.
- Install riser guard under direct supervision while positioned at least four feet below the lowest point of attachment of primary line to the pole.
Minimum Requirements
High Schoolor equivalent
witha minimum of one-year experience in utility work, construction, heavy laborer or related experience
ORCertificate from an Accredited Lineman College
withsix months experience in utility work, construction, heavy laborer or related experience.
Ability
to operate machinery and vehicles.
Must
be familiar with basic hand tools.
Ability
to rapidly acquire basic knowledge of corporate procedures, first aid, and safety rules and regulations
Working
knowledge of basic electricity, construction work, and construction units.
Ability
to read and interpret maps and staking sheets and to gain a good working knowledge of all types of metering.
Ability
to gain knowledge of Georgia Utility Facility Protection Act (GUFPA) regulations.
SKILLS Must Pass Required Job Skills Demonstration. Ability
to complete and pass required line worker certification program and step level evaluations.
Must
be able to work at heights, climb tall structures and poles, lift, carry and pull heavy objects.
Average
or above average computer skills are desired.
Basic
mechanical aptitude.
Ability
to interact in a professional and courteous manner with co-workers and members.
Ability
to use judgement and reasoning skills to perform the essential functions of the position.
Obtain
valid Class A Commercial Georgia driver's permit within three months and a valid Class A Commercial Georgia driver’s license and relevant endorsements within six months of hire.
Obtain
valid Georgia Flagging Certification within six months of hire
Obtain
valid Cobb County Excavating and Trenching Certification within one year of hire.
Must
supply own hand tools.
PREFERRED Previous
utility industry experience.
Previous
experience in an electrical distribution system.
Basic
knowledge of electricity.
