Summary

Spire is seeking a skilled and proactive Microsoft Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for the design, implementation, and support of Microsoft 365 services and solutions, ensuring optimal performance, security, and user experience across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in Microsoft 365 technologies—including Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive—and a strong understanding of compliance and data governance. This position will collaborate across teams to shape and implement digital workplace initiatives that drive innovation and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Manage and optimize the Microsoft 365 platform, including SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, and compliance/governance features.

- Review, analyze and prioritize requests using Spire’s ticketing system. Produce technical and functional requirements that enhance collaboration, productivity, and security.

- Partner with internal teams to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies.

- Foster a culture of innovation by providing technical guidance, consulting, and support to maximize user adoption. Provide troubleshooting and production support to resolve end user issues.

- Leverage reporting and analytics tools to identify issues, monitor performance, and mitigate security risks. Ensure risks are communicated and escalated. Provide recommendations for mitigation and elimination.

- Serve as a subject matter expert and collaborate with IT teams to support implementation, operations, and enhancement of M365 services.

- Provide training to end users and collaborate with Technical Writer, Corporate Communications and the Smart Desk to ensure technology changes and new features are communicated.

- Act as a primary contact during major incidents and outages related to Microsoft 365.

- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).


Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

One or more of the following certifications preferred:

- SAFe Certification(s)

- Microsoft 365 Certified: Fundamentals (MS-900)

- Microsoft 365 Certified: Associate-level (e.g., MS-700, MS-203, MD-102)

- Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert (MS-102)


Required knowledge, skill and abilities

- Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.

- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 services and administration.

- Experience with PowerShell scripting for automation and management.

- Familiarity with Microsoft Entra, Purview, and Defender is preferred

- Experience with Microsoft Copilot and/or other AI-powered productivity solutions is preferred.

- Experience with data security and analytics tools and such as Varonis, Egnyte or Sentra preferred.

- Knowledge of best practices around data discovery, data classification, access governance, threat detection and compliance.

- Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft 365 ecosystem and administrative tools.

- Experience managing users, group policies, and cloud storage solutions.

- Solid understanding of security best practices and compliance regulations.

- Familiarity with data retention policies and data classification.

- Advanced expertise in SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams.

- Proficiency in PowerShell for automation and administration.

- Experience working in hybrid cloud environments.

- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. Desire and ability to find the answers.

- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to train and support users.

- Proven ability to evaluate innovative solutions and assess their impact on existing infrastructure.

- Demonstrated success in implementing large-scale, enterprise-wide solutions.

- Experience managing vendor relationships.


Physical demands, environment and schedule

- Hybrid remote/shared open-office environment.

- Work is primarily performed during standard business hours, with occasional off-hours support for critical issues, on-call responsibilities, and implementations.

- Some travel may be required, primarily between St. Louis and Birmingham locations.
