Southern Company is seeking a dedicated and skilled Engineer to join our team at Plant Scherer, one of the largest coal-fired power plants in the United States. The Engineer will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of the plant by overseeing engineering projects, optimizing processes, and supporting maintenance activities.
Project Management: Lead and manage engineering projects from conception through completion, including design, budgeting, scheduling, and implementation.
Process Optimization: Analyze plant processes and systems to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency, reliability, and safety. Implement solutions to optimize plant operations.
Maintenance Support: Collaborate with maintenance teams to develop and execute preventive and corrective maintenance strategies. Provide technical expertise during equipment troubleshooting and repairs.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure that all engineering activities adhere to safety standards and regulatory requirements. Promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
Technical Analysis: Conduct technical analyses, feasibility studies, and risk assessments to support decision-making processes. Prepare technical reports and presentations for management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including operations, maintenance, and environmental teams, to achieve plant goals and objectives.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies. Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance plant performance.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering or a related field.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in power plant engineering or a similar industrial setting.
Strong knowledge of power plant systems, including boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment.
Proven project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, including OSHA and EPA guidelines.
