Capital Power is seeking a technically skilled and collaborative Electrical and ICS Asset Engineer to join our Engineering team. Reporting to the Asset Engineering Manager, this role is responsible for delivering day-to-day engineering and technical support for electrical, instrumentation, and control systems at our Midland facility. This position plays a key role in ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operations while contributing to long-term asset performance and project execution.
You Will Contribute to Our Team By:
- Providing technical support for electrical and ICS systems, including troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and compliance with internal and external standards.
- Managing and executing complex repair tasks and design changes related to electrical, instrumentation, and control systems.
- Supporting operations and maintenance teams with technical direction and mentoring to ensure robust engineering practices.
- Participating in the development and implementation of predictive tools and maintenance strategies to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
- Reviewing and applying engineering codes, standards, and internal procedures; contributing to the development of internal standards.
- Evaluating the economic impact of technical solutions and recommending alternatives where appropriate.
- Supporting Management of Change (MoC) processes and participating in peer reviews to ensure engineering compliance.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate engineering insights into operational and strategic planning.
- Providing input into recruitment, development plans, and performance assessments for junior engineers and engineering students.
- Demonstrating a strong focus on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards and contributing to the development of related procedures.
What You Will Bring to the Role:
- Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineering status required (if in Canada).
- 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience (experience equivalencies may be considered).
- Exposure to industrial environments, preferably in power generation or similar sectors.
- Understanding of electrical system design, maintenance, and compliance with codes and standards.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and controls engineering, including PLCs, DCS, and analytical instruments.
- Familiarity with civil/structural engineering principles and maintenance processes in industrial settings.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Combination of office and field work, with location determined by assigned asset.
- Travel may be required to support other facilities or project needs.
