The entry level engineer or technical designer will be responsible for technical work within a well-defined scope and will require the application of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Assignments are in the form of design, problem solving, and technical support for the optimal design, operation, and maintenance of gas distribution systems.
The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to clearly communicate (verbally and in writing) to both technical and non-technical individuals. The candidate will be comfortable working independently and in a group setting. A valid driver’s license, and a willingness to occasionally travel is required.
Responsibilities
•Use engineering skills and techniques to develop gas network models by following defined processes, procedures, and instructions. Analyze data and recommend solutions and/or improvements in gas distribution networks.
•Create reports that are easy to understand for both nontechnical and technical readers.
•Work under and/or seek guidance of experienced professionals to recommend and implement timely solutions involving routine engineering, design, operation, maintenance of company assets and market optimization.
•If applicable, use engineering judgment to fill gaps in procedure and know when to ask for help.
•Collaborate with more experienced engineers to provide follow-up and engineering assistance on defined problems within time and budget constraints.
•Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulation, and codes.
•Assist with development of corporate standards, procedures, tools related to network simulation, and facility designs.
•Depending on experience, generate facility design drawings in compliance with specifications.
•Depending on experience, attend client meetings, perform shop walk throughs, and P&ID review of assembled RMO packages.
Qualifications
•Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution
•Registered with APEGA as a member in training
•4+ years in a technical role within the oil & gas industry; less experience will be considered for the right applicant.
•Knowledge of compressible flow network analysis.
•Excellent computer skills, knowledge of MS Office suite (emphasis on Word & Excel), and Outlook as well as other engineering and simulation software. Ability to use DNVLG Synergi Gas, AFT Arrow or B3PE GASWorkS is an asset.
•Understand construction techniques, material properties and engineering principles.
•Exceptional interpersonal and English language communication skills. Must be able to interact with all levels of staff and clients accurately and concisely.
•Enthusiastic, able to work within teams or independently, and desires to learn and develop technical knowledge base.
•Able to produce high quality work while facing competing priorities and strict deadlines.
•Positive, adaptable and able to handle ambiguity; able to stay focused in a dynamic environment.
•Willing to take ownership and personal responsibility for their work, choices and problems, and to correct them promptly.
•Proactively make changes to improve performance, efficiency, and effectiveness of processes; for example, challenge existing engineering procedures and highlight areas for improvement.
•Strong attention to details.
•Ability to work flexible hours, occasionally more than 40hrs per week.
•Ability to draft in 3D is an asset.
•Keen problem-solving ability, interests and hobbies will be considered, building electronic, carpentry or mechanical items including vehicles is considered an asset.
