ENGINEER IN TRAINING – 6MOS CONTRACT GSD/GSWMD WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT
Engineer in Training (EIT)– Wastewater Treatment Plant
Gary Sanitary District (GSD) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our team on a 6-month contract basis, with the possibility of extension for additional wastewater projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in engineering fundamentals, a passion for water resource management, and a desire to contribute to critical infrastructure projects that serve the Gary community.
Key Responsibilities:
•Assist in the planning, design, and implementation of wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects.
•Conduct field inspections and surveys to assess existing conditions and gather data.
•Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, and reports.
•Assist in the preparation of construction plans and specifications.
•Review and analyze technical data and reports.
•Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, and project stakeholders.
•Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
•Contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the GSD engineering team.
•Perform other duties as requested
Reports To:
Director and Assistant Manager of Engineering.
Requirements and Qualifications:
Education:
•Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
Certification:
•Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Skills and Experience:
•Strong understanding of wastewater and stormwater management principles.
•Knowledge of relevant engineering software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, hydraulic modeling software).
•Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
•Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgement capabilities.
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
•Experience with wastewater treatment plant design and operations.
•Knowledge of Indiana environmental regulations.
•Familiarity with GIS and mapping tools.
Physical Demands:
•Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including sitting/walking at will, sitting/standing/ walking for long periods, walking on uneven terrain, lifting/ carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing less than 50 pounds.
•Ability to handling/grasping/ fingering objects, close vision, color vision, depth perception, hearing sounds/communication, and speaking clearly.
•Ability to lift manhole covers, navigate forested areas, and perform duties at various lift stations.
