Engineer in Training (EIT)– Wastewater Treatment Plant
Gary Sanitary District (GSD) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our team on a 6-month probationary period, with the possibility of extension for additional wastewater projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in engineering fundamentals, a passion for water resource management, and a desire to contribute to critical infrastructure projects that serve the Gary community.
· Assist in the planning, design, and implementation of wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects.
· Conduct field inspections and surveys to assess existing conditions and gather data.
· Assist in the preparation of construction plans and specifications.
· Review and analyze technical data and reports.
· Collaborate with other engineers, technicians, and project stakeholders.
· Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.
· Contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the GSD engineering team.
· Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
· Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
· Strong understanding of wastewater and stormwater management principles.
· Knowledge of relevant engineering software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, hydraulic modeling software).
· Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgement capabilities.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Experience with wastewater treatment plant design and operations.
· Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including sitting/walking at will, sitting/standing/ walking for long periods, walking on uneven terrain, lifting/ carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing less than 50 pounds.
· Ability to handling/grasping/ fingering objects, close vision, color vision, depth perception, hearing sounds/communication, and speaking clearly.
· Ability to lift manhole covers, navigate forested areas, and perform duties at various lift stations.
