Description
The Electrical Testing Engineer is responsible for performing testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical systems in renewable energy projects such as solar PV plants, wind farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and substations. This role ensures electrical equipment and systems operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications. Concurrently, perform and adhere to all training requirements and schedules. Training program requirements are expected to be completed within the designated time frame.
- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(Other duties may be assigned as needed)
- Adheres to, supports and complies with all company safety and environmental policies and practices. Ensure all employees, contractors and visitors conduct themselves safely and within company policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Complete required annual safety training.
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours during commissioning phases as required
- Travel up to 30% (project dependent)
- Perform pre commissioning, commissioning, and acceptance testing of:
- Medium and low voltage equipment
- Power transformers
- Switchgear (AIS/GIS)
- Inverters, converters, and PCS systems
- Protection relays
- Cables and grounding systems
- Execute tests including but not limited to:
- Insulation resistance (IR) and polarization index (PI)
- Contact resistance
- High potential (Hi Pot) testing
- CT/PT testing
- Relay protection functional and trip testing
- Power quality and harmonics analysis
- Diagnose and resolve electrical system failures or abnormal performance during testing or operation
- Support root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment faults and grid related events
- Provide on site technical support during energization and startup activities
- Develop and execute testing procedures, checklists, and method statements
- Record test results and prepare detailed commissioning and test reports
- Ensure documentation complies with project, client, and regulatory requirements
- Follow all site safety rules, lock out/tag out (LOTO), and energized work procedures
- Ensure testing activities comply with applicable codes and standards such as:
- NEC / NFPA 70
- IEEE
- IEC
- NERC (where applicable)
- Promote a culture of safety and quality on all renewable energy sites
- Coordinate testing activities with project managers, EPC teams, utilities, and OEMs
- Support grid interconnection and utility witness testing
- Participate in design reviews to identify testing and commissioning requirements early
Salary: $130,000 - $150,000 annually

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE-
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
- 3-7+ years of electrical testing and commissioning experience- Experience in renewable energy projects such as:
- Utility scale solar PV
- Wind energy
- Energy storage (BESS)
- Substations or grid tie systems
- Strong understanding of power systems and protection philosophy
- Hands on experience with electrical test equipment and software
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Single ine diagrams
- Schematics and wiring diagrams
- Protection settings and coordination studies
- LANGUAGE SKILLS-
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to communicate orally with other employees including the proper use of a radio.
- Ability to follow instructions and follow directions from team members.
- Ability to write routine correspondence.
- MATHEMATICAL SKILLS-
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

- CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS-
- Possess a valid drivers license for the state in which you are applying.
- NETA Level II, III, or IV
- PE License (or EIT working toward PE)
- OSHA 30 Hour or equivalent safety certification
- High voltage safety training
