JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, to perform experienced level skilled work in the construction and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical transmission and distribution systems.
Examples of Duties
Duties And Responsibilities
Climb poles, towers, and work at various heights above the ground installing and replacing primary and secondary lines.
Replace equipment while distribution primaries are energized by using rubber gloves or hot sticks.
Set poles, towers, and construction of other devices to guy and hold electrical lines.
String new wire, maintain and repair transmission, distribution secondary, fiber optics and other communication lines.
Install, repair, splice and maintain underground electric systems and equipment.Operate presses, shoring, gas monitoring, and ventilating equipment.
Install and operate line equipment such as transformers, switches, cut-outs, disconnects, insulators, circuit breakers, capacitors, terminators, reclosers and line apparatus.
Install, connect, and maintain transformers.
Remove old poles and fixtures.
Transfer energized primary lines by using rubber gloves or hot sticks.
Test pole lines and other facilities.
Trim trees to clear lines.
Drive and operate electrical line equipment including but not limited to reel trucks, diggers, aerial lifts, underground pulling equipment and USA fault and radar locating equipment .
Plan and initiate projects.
Supervise and train Apprentice Electrical Lineworkers and apprentices.
Transmission and distribution line patrolling.
Inspect contractor's work on trenches, conduit, vaults and transformer pads.
Hazardous materials response and clean up.
Follow OSHA and TID safety requirements.
Install and maintain dusk-to-dawn lights and streetlights.
Follow DOT and Cal-Trans rules for safe traffic control.
Serve as acting Line Supervisor as assigned.
Respond to emergency situations.
Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications

Required Skills
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required skills and abilities is qualifying.A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be:
Education
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience
Completion of an apprenticeship program or recognized status as an Electrical Lineworker.
Skills And Abilities
Interpersonal and Communication
Ability to: follow oral and written instructions; and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Technical and Analytical
Knowledge of: basic electricity; methods, materials and techniques of electrical lineworker trade; installation, operation, and maintenance of overhead and underground transmission and distribution wires; hazard and safety measures of the trade; and California Public Utilities Commission Publications General Order #95 and #128.Ability to: climb poles and work at various heights; use independent judgment and initiative; read and interpret line construction plans and written instructions; apply first aid and artificial respiration; operate electrical line equipment; and use and care for the tools and equipment of the trade.
