Drilling Safety Specialist

Job Objective:

To serve as an EHS resource for the Company. Manages and coordinates all safety, health, environmental and training matters to ensure and promote a safe and productive environment by identifying and anticipating concerns and hazards, developing, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with occupational safety and health regulations. Leads health and safety activities throughout all drilling operations.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

- Supports drilling operations; advises, identifies and anticipates health and safety concerns by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational risks/conditions/behaviors, and then render opinions and recommendations regarding new equipment, processes, and procedures.

- Develops knowledge of the occupational hazards/exposures for specific drilling rigs. Coordinates with management to implement health management activities to include health risk assessments, health education, behavior modification and health improvement activities.

- Mentor foremen, company men, wellsite supervisors and tool pushers on Hilcorp Asset Leadership principles at the field level.

- Support incident investigations through leading and/or actively participation, including lesson learned document development and action item tracking.

- Possess in-depth knowledge of Alaska Safety Handbook (ASH) requirements, applicable regulations, and field level safety processes and tools.

- Comply with federal, state, and local safety regulations by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, interpreting standards, enforcing adherence to regulations, and advising management on needed actions. Serves as liaison with federal/state/local safety regulatory agencies.

- Enforces company safety policies and procedures by conducting inspections and audits, action item reviews, reporting statistics, and advising managers and employees.

- Coordinates and conducts monthly safety training programs at various locations.

- Assists with and participates in the company’s emergency response situations and spill management program.

- Develops reviews, maintains, and implements the company’s safety policies and procedures manual.

- Investigates accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety programs.

- Assists in developing alternatives to decrease workers compensation claims and rates.

- Adheres to the company’s values – integrity, ownership, urgency, alignment, and innovation.

- Adheres to established work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.

Other Job Responsibilities:

- Ability to be available 24 hours per day (on call for questions, emergencies, etc.).

- Maintains employee confidence and protects drilling operations by keeping information confidential.

- Ability to solve problems accurately and exceptional proficiency in data management.

- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional associations.

- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

- Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned by supervisor or manager.

Qualifications:

- Ten (5+) years’ minimum experience in safety, health specialized and working directly for E&P Company, five (2+) years minimum experience in Drilling activities

- North Slope experience in the oil and gas industry and the ability to work in Arctic conditions.

- Ability to accurately solve problems and exceptional proficiency in data management.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other departments, officials, and the public.

- Ability to complete multiple, diverse tasks of differing priorities.

- Ability to travel to remote locations via large and small planes, helicopter or boat, and ability to don and

doff immersion suit.

- Strong leader, self-starter, excellent communicator with solid interpersonal skills.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate complex information into an organized and presentable manner.

- Outstanding administrative and organizational skills.

- Proficiency in the use and application of the following software: Preferred: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), ChemWatch or other SDS management system, VelocityEHS or other incident management system.

- Alaska Residency Preferred

Education Requirements:

- Required: Associate/Technical Degree from an accredited two-year college, community college, or technical school or any equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the duties of the position.

- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year university or college, or related experience.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

- CSHO, COSS, CHST, OHST, ASP, CSP or CIH preferred
