JOB SUMMARY
Doyon Drilling Inc. (DDI) operates on the North Slope of Alaska with unique oil and gas land drilling rigs and camps specially designed to operate in extreme Arctic conditions. The employee will oversee the overall operations of company facilities in the field by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors; manages all personnel supervise the daily operation of each specific drilling rig; also supervises personnel who may work at other locations on a temporary basis; carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Doyon Drilling Inc. policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining and discharging employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
The drilling superintendent manages oil and gas well drilling, completion, work over, and support operations in a safe, environmentally responsible manner by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensures the Health, Safety, and Environmental regulatory compliance of all DDI rigs
- Performs periodic HSE audits and walkthroughs
- Participation in investigations and audits
- Promotion of DDI safety and hazard recognition programs
- Conduct performance evaluations on subordinates as specified in the DDI employee performance SOP
- Completes documentation of all disciplinary actions
- Ensure employees are competent to perform jobs assigned
- Ensures rig activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner
- Oversees all field activities, support, and logistical operations
- Line management link between the field and the operations office
- Oversees Proper maintenance and operation of equipment
- Advises on specific servicing problems and recommends use of specialized tools, techniques, and services
- Provide technical expertise to rig crews
- Helps in monitoring equipment inventory and provide input as to equipment purchases
- Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in facility modifications
- Inspects work in progress to ensure that work quality conforms to specifications and construction schedules
- Works with supervisory personnel to resolve any work force complaints or problems
- Prepares reports/reviews as necessary regarding audits, incidents, construction progress, or other items
- Communication with customer representatives, DDI management, and support personnel
- Act as company representative at all necessary meetings with DDI customers
- Must have the ability manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of appropriate procedures for handling sensitive and confidential information
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the use of email
- Performs other duties as assigned

- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in the oil & gas industry (North Slope experience preferred)
- 5 years of experience as a Tool Pusher or Company Man
- 5 years of experience in drilling operations (North Slope experience preferred)
- Certificate of Completion in Well Control (Supervisor Surface Stack)
- Root Cause Analysis Training (Preferred)
- In-depth knowledge of all rig operations and equipment
- Current Driver's License
- WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The majority of the work is performed in a professional office setting with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities and abilities.
- PHYSICAL DEMANDS: An individual will be required to work the majority of hours in a general office environment and will need to be able to quickly respond to a change in work demands. Occasional light lifting (1-25 lbs) is required.
