DESIGNER / DRAFTER

Powerline Plus Ltd. is a privately owned utility contractor with a proud history that was established in 1990. We focus on three main operations, Electrical, Civil Construction and Engineering & Design. Powerline Plus Ltd. provides quality solutions to public utilities, municipalities and developers, as well as industrial, national and international manufacturing companies across the GTA.

Designers at Powerline Plus Ltd. oversee and design multiple complex and challenging underground and overhead infrastructure projects. This individual must be highly motivated and dedicated to work both independently and with direction from others. Designers participate actively and maintain ongoing relations with project coordinators, clients, drafters, engineers and the Engineering & Design Manager.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

+A Degree in Electrical Engineering

+A member in good standing with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)

+3-5 years of experience designing underground and overhead distribution systems

+Ability to design and draft

+Proficient with AutoCAD 2014+, MicroStation, GIS and ProjectWise software

+Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office

+Valid class ‘G’ license preferred

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

+Design, oversee and manage all aspects of assigned underground and overhead distribution rehab projects for Toronto Hydro, utilizing the following software; AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS and ProjectWise

+Comply with Toronto Hydro, Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and all other applicable electrical standards during the design process

+Understand all applicable standards when considering the following in the design process; the number of cables, cable size, cable material, cable tension, rated voltage, underground duct banks, cable chambers, transformer size and type, switches or switchgear, hydro poles, etc.

+Design and draft comprehensive drawings including primary schematic, secondary schematic, cable and duct layout, overhead plans etc.

+Design underground structures factoring in all other existing underground utilities and infrastructure

+Liaise with internal and external parties to ensure compliance requirements are met and approvals are attained for each phase of the project(s)

+Conduct site reviews and inspections (QA/QC)

+Provide field support to resolve any arising issues in the preliminary design stages.

+Liaise with the Toronto Hydro Program Support Office (PSO) to support the successful delivery of multiple capital projects.

+Various administrative tasks to support the Engineering & Design process and functionality of design processes
