Reporting to the Vice President, Operations, and as a key member of the senior management team, the Director, System Operations
is responsible for ensuring the operational reliability and security of the Manitoba Hydro bulk electrical system in compliance with
NERC reliability Standards and providing transmission services to wholesale customers. The Director is expected to role model as a
safety champion and demonstrate strong safety leadership. As a key member of the leadership team in Operations, the Director is
expected to collaborate with and support the other divisions in Operations.
- Oversee the safe, reliable and efficient real time operation of the Manitoba Hydro Bulk Electrical System including all
Generation, Transmission and Sub Transmission facilities (including HVDC and Interconnection Lines).
- Ensure assets are operated efficiently and effectively to meet energy transmission and distribution targets in compliance with
- Responsible for the implementation of NERC Reliability Standards, NERC CIP Cyber Security Standards and Manitoba Hydro
- Represent Manitoba Hydro's interest in regional transmission-related forums such as NERC Reliability, Midcontinent
Independent System Operator (MISO), and MISO Transmission Owners.
- Manage the delivery and sustainment of reliable, secure, cost effective and innovative telecommunications solutions for

- Understand the drivers of safety performance and culture to enhance overall safety performance, working closely with
- Responsible to prepare and manage divisional operating budgets, workforce plans, and business plans, as well as ensuring
KPIs are met for a division comprised of over 300 staff with an approx. $50M annual budget.
- A University Degree in an appropriate discipline with ten years of related senior leadership experience demonstrating
progressively greater responsibility or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
- Ability to think both strategically and tactically, while making astute decisions.
- Excellent technical understanding of utility systems, and grid and market operations.
- A strong coach and mentor with an ability to inspire others and promote a compelling vision.
- Comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of project management.
- Experience working with safety, health & environment standards and policies.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $177,622.90 -
