Job Description
X-energy is seeking professionals to join our Global Business Development team in the role of Director, Structuring. The position will be responsible for leading the evaluation and qualification of prospective customers and off-takers for X-energy’s advanced nuclear reactor projects and lead the financial modeling of projects from screening to execution.
Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities:
•Design and implement a customer screening process for utilities, municipalities, large industrial customers, and data centers interested in clean, firm baseload power from SMRs.
•Evaluate customer creditworthiness, market position, load profile, and regulatory status to inform engagement and contract strategy.
•Lead the buildout of screening models, intake tools, and governance for assessing customer eligibility and risks during pre-commercial and commercial phases.
•Assess the financial and operational viability of potential long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), energy service contracts, and capacity commitments.
•Support negotiation teams by providing customer risk profiles, pricing risk adjustments, and providing deep insights into customer motivations to inform negotiating strategies.
•Work with Legal, Licensing, Procurement, Project Management, and Global Business Development teams to align customer vetting with strategic deployment goals.
•Work collaboratively with the X-energy global business development team and government relations team to stay abreast of, and positively influence, federal and state policy affecting SMR deployment.
•Provide insights into siting strategies and market participation opportunities for SMR deployment in collaboration with Global Business Development Team.
•Support Global Business Development team in analyzing capacity, ancillary services, and arbitrage opportunities that strengthen the value proposition for X-energy’s technology solutions.
•Develop and lead financial structuring for X-energy advanced nuclear reactor projects, including developing debt/equity strategies and working with private debt and infrastructure funding, public-private partnership models, and government-backed funding instruments.
•Develop internal reporting and risk dashboards for executive stakeholders and board-level review.
•Oversee detailed project financial modeling, sensitivity analysis, and structuring recommendations to ensure investor confidence and project partner alignment.
•Evaluate risk allocation across the full project lifecycle — from construction through operations — to ensure bankability.
•Collaborate with commercial, legal, and technical teams to structure long-term offtake agreements (e.g., PPAs), customer financing models, and host country agreements.
•Support negotiations around EPC contracts, O&M agreements, strategic sourcing, and fuel supply arrangements from a financial risk perspective.
•Support the development of project joint ventures, special purpose vehicles (SPVs), and consortium models that enhance project delivery and financing capacity.
•Maintain professional demeanor and behavior at all times in all forms of communication.
•Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
Job Profile Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, business, or related field; an MBA is preferred but not required.
•Typically, fifteen years of general work experience with ten plus years of experience in energy, energy markets, business development, or other relevant roles. Candidates with less experience but a strong background in customer risk assessment, contract structuring, project finance, infrastructure investment, or nuclear/clean energy commercialization will be considered.
•Familiarity with power procurement structures (PPAs, tolling agreements, project development, etc.).
•Prior experience working with large power customers, heavy industrials, and/or utilities.
•Exceptional analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Work Site Expectations: 4-5 days a week in office
Travel Expectations: up to 20% as needed
Hours: standard office schedule is 8:00am-5:00pm ET, Mon-Fri
Compensation
As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives.
A reasonable estimate for this position at the level of experience required is:
$164,625- $274,375. The compensation for this position is comprised of base salary plus an annual short term incentive which is variable, based on scope of responsibility and achievement of goals.
