The Director of Occupational Health & Safety is a strategic leader responsible for driving the organization’s health and safety vision across North American operations in Canada and the US. This role leads a field team of Occupational Health & Safety Business Partners in implementing and sustaining a culture of safety excellence. The Director of Occupational Health & Safety is responsible for developing and executing long-term strategies in injury and accident prevention, industrial hygiene, and personal protective equipment (PPE), while ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations in both the US and Canada.

What you’ll do:•Leads the organizations Health & Safety Occupational field team in support of strategic initiatives to prevent accidents and injuries, developing long-term occupational health and safety strategies, such as medical monitoring and industrial hygiene strategy
•Leadership: Manages 7 direct reports, Occupational Health & Safety Business Partners in the US and Canada, ensures strategic field support to the regional operations teams across North American footprint
•Implements critical safety systems that ensure the organization maintains the highest level of safety excellence
•Works collaboratively across the safety function with the other “Center of Excellence” leaders to execute strategic objectives to accomplish business objectives
•Reports incident and accident trends to Senior Leadership, providing guidance and follow-up actions that address trends or reduce incidents/accidents.
•Develops occupational safety training strategy, in partnership with Learning function
•Manages company hazard assessments, auditing the program and tracking corrective actions, behavior-based safety programs and incident management program
•Owns Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) strategy, in collaboration with procurement and business partners
•Works with local, state and federal agencies on compliance-related issues
•Collaborates cross-functionally with other business functions where strategic interdependencies exist, including but not limited to Human Resources, Learning, Claims, Legal functions
•Regularly audit all occupational health & safety programs to ensure success
•This role will sit remotely, but will require 25% travel throughout our US & Canadian footprint (2 trips per month, averaging 2-3 days in duration)
What you bring:
•Bachelor's Degree or higher in Occupational Health & Safety or related field
•10+ years' in ESH field with 5+ years' in a leadership role leading large organizations; Experience leading cross-border teams strongly preferred
•Professional certifications preferred (i.e. CSP, OHST)
•Proficiency in leveraging digital tools to monitor trends, analyze incidents, and drive proactive safety interventions
•Knowledge of regulatory bodies requirements, including: OSHA DOT, DHS, Health Canada, NFPA, NPGA, CPA, EPA
•Ability to meet travel requirements needed for the position
