Job Summary
The Director of National Accounts is responsible for leading strategic relationships with over 200 of the AEP’s largest commercial, industrial, data center and other institutional customers across the service territory. This role drives revenue growth, customer satisfaction, and long-term partnerships by aligning customer needs with the utility’s energy solutions, including electric service, energy efficiency programs, distributed energy resources, and sustainability initiatives.
Job Description What You'll Do:
Strategic Account Management
- Develop and execute national account strategies to meet revenue, retention, and customer satisfaction goals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key accounts, including Fortune 500/1000 companies, government agencies, and large institutions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with senior decision-makers and stakeholders.
- Identify new business opportunities within existing accounts and potential national clients.
- Lead complex contract negotiations, including pricing, service agreements, and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop customized energy solutions and proposals.
- Coordinate with engineering, operations, regulatory, and operating company customer service teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Lead and mentor a team of national account managers and support staff.
- Promote internal alignment and communication across departments to support account strategies.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive activity to inform account strategies.
- Advocate for customer interests in regulatory proceedings and policy development.
- Prepare and present regular reports on account performance, revenue forecasts, and strategic initiatives.
- Analyze customer data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, engineering, or related field. - MBA preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in strategic account management, preferably in the energy or utilities sector.
- Proven track record of managing large, complex accounts and driving revenue growth.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with energy markets, utility operations, and regulatory environments.
- Licenses/Certifications: Certified Energy Manager (CED) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications helpful but not required.
- Experience in leading and energizing a team of skilled professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to drive business development opportunities.
- Understanding of complex projects.
- Creativity in problem solving.
- Customer service approach to account management.
- Demonstrated ability to strive for and achieve financial goals.
- 25-50% travel throughout AEP system and nationally.

$155,761.00-202,490.50 USD
