Clearlight Energy, an LS Power company established in 2025, operates more than 3,000 MW across 44 assets consisting of utility scale solar, wind, battery storage and renewable natural gas in North America. Approximately 2,700 MW of its operations are located in the U.S., across NYISO, MISO, PJM, ERCOT and CAISO markets, with the remaining 300 MW located in Canada. Clearlight Energy focuses on providing operational excellence to supply critical energy capacity and meet growing demand. Additionally, it has a 1,200 MW development pipeline of additional renewable resources to support grid reliability and decarbonization.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Senior Director, Business Development, the Director, Business Development (Canada) will be responsible for all aspects of growing Clearlight Energy’s utility scale generation business with a primary focus on the Canadian market. The Director will play a key leadership role in the formation of business development strategy, targeting both greenfield and acquisitions opportunities to profitably grow and add value to the portfolio.

Responsibilities What you will do….

Lead the development and execution of a pipeline of utility scale renewable energy projects to drive growth in the Canadian generation portfolio.
Provide commercial leadership within the Business Development group, leading the formation of investment thesis and strategies to effectively drive growth of the Canadian business.
Co-ordinate with internal teams and utilize shared resources across the organization to pursue opportunities in a pro-active fashion.
Oversee all aspects of early-stage project development, including coordination with internal and external subject matter experts to ensure all workstreams are completed and documented within tight transaction timelines.
Lead contractual negotiations with key project stakeholders (First Nations, community partners, landowners), to structure partnerships in optimal way to achieve success in procurement processes.
Oversee development budget within the Canadian portfolio, ensuring that projects are properly resourced while controlling overspend vs approved budgets.
Build and maintain relationships with developers, investment bankers, consultants, suppliers and others to drive new business opportunities.
Develop and leverage relationships with small to medium size project developers in order to source opportunities outside of competitive sell-side processes.
Maintain deep understanding of the regulatory environment and incentives for renewable energy in Canada and US, effectively targeting resources to position for success in upcoming Provincial RFPs.
Work closely with the economic analysis group, supervising work streams related to gathering inputs for the financial model, and develop in-depth understanding of transaction economics and key drivers.
Create and present executive level briefing materials as part of investment approval process and regular shareholder updates.
Mentor junior team members across the business development team to increase their knowledge and understanding of the project development and execution process.
Participate in opportunities to add value across the existing US generation fleet (repowering, BESS etc) as required.

Qualifications We want you on our team because you…

Have a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in a Business or Engineering discipline.
Minimum 10 years of business experience, including experience leading the development of projects and/or transactions in the energy space.
In depth understanding of key workstreams within the project development life-cycle, and ability to translate input from technical teams into actionable commercial recommendations.
Experience evaluating complex projects and financial transactions using discounted cash flow models.
Excellent commercial acumen and ability to effectively evaluate and solve business challenges.
Excellent external and internal relationship building skills with a focus on driving business results.
Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to prioritize conflicting deliverables.
