Accountabilities And Key Functions
The Director, BESS will be responsible for the development of utility scale battery storage projects across the US and Canada, including identifying, securing, overseeing procurement, engineering efforts, contracting, and commissioning of new storage opportunities.

Key Functions Include
- Identify and help shape storage at BluEarth.
- Support the development team of existing pipeline, new greenfield development, and project acquisition.
- Be the customer facing representative of BluEarth with both utilities and C&Is.
- Engage with vendors and perform research to determine optimal storage solutions and configuration.
- Build and continually optimize an internal BluEarth storage financial model.
- Determine optimal development strategy to maximize BluEarth success on storage projects.
- Effectively communicate complex solutions and work through development issues from the start of development through construction.
- Manage and support permitting, site control, interconnection matters, power marketing, design, engineering, procurement, financing, and other matters critical to the development of storage projects at BluEarth.
- Ownership of project inputs/assumptions and coordinating updates with respective internal groups.
- Manage storage project progress, risks, opportunities, and economic while providing thoughtful analysis and risk evaluation.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the overall state of the energy storage market, including regulatory and competitive matters to inform development decisions.
- Manage negotiation of lease/purchase options and agreements for site control.
- Coordinate engineering activities in support of permits and as required for interconnection matters.
- Lead negotiation of tolling / contract agreements
- Work closely with the engineering team in support of design and EPC process.
- Uphold all aspects of BluEarth’s Environmental, Health, & Safety policies, practices, and programs.
- Uphold the company’s core values.
- University degree in business, economics, engineering, environmental science, or another analytical field is required.
- Minimum 10 years’ relevant work experience and five (5) years experience in energy storage development.
- Experience in project management, permitting, offtake negotiation, interconnection, planning, land acquisition and other matters critical to development.
- Experience preparing, negotiating, and closing commercial agreements including development agreements, site control agreements, consulting and service agreements, interconnection, and power sales agreements.
- Ability to evaluate development status and efficiently inform critical decision making with management.
- Must be available to travel (U.S. & Canada) up to 30% of the time with the need for some overnight trips.
- In depth understanding of renewable energy industry.
