Wood is currently seeking an experienced Pipeline R&D and Stress Analysis Subject Matter Expert (SME) to join our VDN office in Calgary on a contract basis.
This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep expertise in the pipeline industry, particularly in stress analysis and pipe/soil interaction. The successful candidate will play a key role in guiding research and development initiatives and providing technical leadership on high-impact pipeline stress issues.

Your responsibilities will include:
•Provide subject matter expertise on complex pipeline stress issues, including pipe/soil interaction
•Guide and manage research and development (R&D) programs related to pipeline design, operation, and stress analysis
•Identify and advise on emerging R&D topics relevant to the pipeline industry
•Support the development of technical proposals for R&D projects
•Offer strategic guidance on the application of industry codes and standards to pipeline projects
•Produce high-quality technical papers for presentation at industry conferences and publication in peer-reviewed journals

Expected:
•Minimum 20 years of experience in pipeline stress analysis, including extensive use of finite element (FE) analysis software
•Strong understanding of the oil and gas pipeline industry, including key technical challenges and regulatory issues
•Expertise in applying relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., CSA Z662, ASME B31.4/B31.8)
•In-depth knowledge of pipeline stress behavior and pipe/soil interaction mechanisms
•Proven research background, including experience leading technical teams and managing R&D projects
•Expertise in authoring technical papers and present research findings at industry events and in academic journal
•Excellent communication and leadership skills
