Reporting directly to the President the Controller is responsible for overseeing full-cycle accounting, payroll, financial reporting, and compliance functions. This hands-on leadership role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financial operations while supporting company growth and efficiency.
- Oversee all aspects of full-cycle accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements, working papers, and supporting schedules.
- Process daily invoicing, bank reconciliations, and sales/cost reporting.
- Manage accounts receivable and payable, including credit approvals, collections, and vendor payments.
- Reconcile intercompany balances and coordinate monthly reporting.
- Analyze GL accounts, monitor accruals, and manage depreciation and foreign exchange adjustments.
- Ensure timely completion of government filings and remittances (EHT, HST, WSIB, Statistics Canada, etc.).
- Maintain inventory and bad debt provisions and oversee cost and variance adjustments.
- Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll, including source deductions, garnishments, and employee direct deposits.
- Maintain and reconcile payroll-related accounts and remittance spreadsheets.
- Manage employee benefit programs, additions, terminations, and issue resolution.
- Prepare HR-related documentation such as employment and termination letters.
- Support WSIB claims and health & safety documentation when required.
- Compile and analyze financial data to prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Submit monthly and quarterly summaries, including financial highlights and fixed asset summaries.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls, company policies, and reporting standards.
- Coordinate communications between accounting, sales, and operations teams to support accurate reporting and process efficiency.
- Support the President with special projects, bank documentation, and internal reporting.
- CPA designation (or equivalent experience in senior accounting/controllership).
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within manufacturing or distribution.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently.
