Working on the Construction Services Team at GFT offers the opportunity to engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity. Whether working on highways and bridges or traffic engineering, our team excels in resilient, sustainable design and construction, delivering innovative solutions that address the complexities of modern, multimodal roadway systems and ensure safe, efficient, and reliable travel for all.
Performs advanced civil, municipal, and complex transportation engineering work in the functional area of Construction Services for GFT on assigned projects to ensure contracted design and construction obligations are achieved in compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Work requires contact with government officials and private entities.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
•Conducts and documents project meetings with clients.
•Manages construction field personnel, including teaming partners.
•Prepares construction contracts and cost estimates.
•Prepares and monitors project schedules and budgets.
•Prepares and issues reports and correspondence.
•Approves quantities for measurement and payment purposes.
•Approves construction payment applications.
•Negotiates and approves construction change orders.
•Resolves technical issues.
•Performs constructability reviews and value engineering studies.
•Leads Risk Management assessments.
•Prepares and monitors Quality Control and Assurance Plans.
•Develops Standard Operating Procedures.
•Manages clients and project teams.
•Responsible for financial and production success of Construction Service-related projects.
•Assists with and/or lead the planning, coordinating and execution of Construction Service projects.
•May oversee and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
•Oversees and schedules construction engineering inspection (CEI) activities.
•Evaluates project issues and produces solutions to address deficiency issues providing insight to the client.
•Manages Construction Service equipment inventory and maintenance.
•Assists with development and review of project proposals.
•Assists with internal training.
•Competency and awareness of safety compliance and programs.
•Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
What you'll bring to our firm:
•Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, or related discipline, from an ABET accredited school.
•15 - 20 years civil engineering, construction engineering, or related engineering experience.
•Valid US driver’s license. This position requires driving to projects and related meetings.
•Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of South Carolina (Professional Engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of South Carolina, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of South Carolina Labor and Licensing Board, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of South Carolina within six (6) months of the date of hire).
•Prior experience on SCDOT construction projects preferred.

•Criminal Background History. This position requires work with airports, municipalities, railroads and other clients that require criminal background history checks.

+ Payment concepts, methods, policies, and requirements.
+ Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities.
+ Negotiating settlement of differences without damaging relationships, applying effective questioning and listening techniques to determine other parties’ positions in a direct and diplomatic manner.
+ Speaking to present images and ideas in a clear, concise, organized, and interesting manner to optimize audience understanding and keep the group focused.
+ Exercise logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; make decisions that support business objectives and goals.
+ Establishes plans and setting objectives and goals that support the overall business strategy/results, anticipating and adjusting for problems/roadblocks.
