Compensation Specialist

Colorado Springs Utilities Human Resources Department is sharing an exciting opportunity to design, implement, and manage compensation strategies , including job evaluations, market pricing, and pay-related transactions. Your work will directly impact equitable pay practices, cost-effective solutions, and competitive positioning within the market.

We are looking for a strategic and detail-oriented Compensation Specialist to join our Total Rewards Team. In this job, you will serve as a trusted partner to HR leadership, HR Business Partners, and organizational leaders, providing guidance on compensation programs that support business objectives and uphold compensation standards.

Key Areas of Focus:

Conduct market analysis to assess salary trends and maintain competitive compensation structures
Develop, update, and maintain job descriptions to reflect evolving organizational needs and industry benchmarks
Design and implement special pay programs , ensuring alignment with company policies and market standards
Analyze and adjust salary structures to maintain equity and competitiveness across roles
Participate in salary surveys, collecting and interpreting data to inform compensation strategy
Utilize compensation software for market pricing, benchmarking, and modeling pay scenarios
Review and evaluate pay policies, procedures, and practices, providing recommendations for improvement
Advise HR leadership on compensation-related recommendations and decisions, ensuring strategic alignment with business objectives
Evaluate job classifications to determine appropriate compensation levels
Ensure compliance with federal and state laws governing compensation practices
Deliver exceptional customer service , providing proactive and cost-effective solutions to compensation challenges


Who you are :

The most successful candidates will understand managing compensation structures, conducting market analysis, and ensuring compliance with regulations. You must possess a strong commitment to a collaborative and consultative approach that balances customer input and compensation principles with an overarching goal to achieve strategic and operational excellence.

Additionally, most candidates will bring 3+ years of HR professional experience, have advanced skills in Excel, outstanding written and verbal communication, be attentive to details and be able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while working with various teams. A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, or a closely related field is preferred.
