Responsible for prepping Coal and Coke samples to be analyzed. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs as the morning hours require this. The open positions is Monday through Thursday, 10-hour days and Weekend shifts are Friday-Sunday 12-14 hour days. Must have current clean driver's License as you will driving a company vehicle to pick up samples. Must also pass initial and random drug tests.
Prepares materials for chemical tests following standardized methods and performs physical tests following standardized methods by performing the following duties:
- Collects materials as directed for preparation
- Prepares materials for analytical processes as directed. Divides and reduces material as specified in the established procedure to the specified nominal top size and mass
- Performs test and quality control procedures in accordance with standard test methods established by laboratory management
- Reports tests result in laboratory management in accordance with daily sample queues assigned by laboratory management
- Proactively observes preparation testing results and quality control data to ensure that analytical processes are operated in an “in-control” condition
- Informs supervision of deviations of acceptable quality control criteria
- Participates in corrective/preventative actions when requested
- Prepares samples and test materials for analytical processes
- Maintains analytical, preparation, sampling and transportation equipment as necessary to ensure adequate operation
- Other duties as assigned by Lab Management
Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform arithmetic in various units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to draw and interpret graphical information.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to detect deviations from acceptable criteria. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to apply critical thinking to standardized situations where company precedent/legal precedent apply.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, climb, and lift and/or move objects of various weights. The employee is required to frequently lift and/or move more than 50 lbs.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; pressurized gases; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock; vibration, and noise exposure.
