Overview
PG&E is seeking an expert-level FinOps Product Owner to help drive our FinOps practice, as we scale to multi-cloud and migrate the majority of our workloads to public cloud. We are looking for someone who:

This role is contract to start, with potential to transition to an employee position.
Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) is one of the largest combined natural gas and electric energy companies in the United States, serving approximately 16 million people throughout northern and central California with natural gas and electric service.
- Provide expert input to, and maintain Cloud FinOps product road map, to deliver continuous improvement to operational processes, to identify gaps in processes and to deliver tooling & enablement to application partners.
- Enable application teams to take ownership of their cloud spend by understanding their use cases and delivering data & tools to that support their needs
- Closely collaborate with Application Teams to understand their business operations and delivery roadmaps, delivering value while not impacting their critical functions
- Work with App teams to optimize Earned Savings Rate (ESR) and resource utilization using Cloud Service Provider (CSP) native tool recommendations and other vendor tools
- Perform analysis from cloud native and vendor purchased tooling to present findings to IT, Finance, Sourcing and Business senior leaders
- Analyze spend trends, opportunities for savings, and advise on specific recommendations for improvement.
- Understand how to leverage metrics and reporting to show relevant context and tell a meaningful story
- Plan and execute FinOps Brown Bags and develop material to lead the FinOps Community of Practice
- Actively participate in product and architectural discussions to help product/project teams make the most cost-efficient choices in the financial aspects of estimation, planning, and operations
- Regularly train and advise cloud engineers, app developers and practitioners in FinOps topics
- Maintain and build upon Cloud FinOps knowledge database (Wiki) making content easy to consume, concise and practical in order to enable teams to manage their cloud spend.
- Proficiency in product development processes and methodologies.
- Experience with SaaS applications and understanding of cloud technologies like AWS.
- Familiarity with APIs for integration purposes.
- Strong knowledge of UML for modeling software systems.
- Ability to conduct user acceptance testing effectively to ensure product quality.
- Experience using Jira for agile project management.
- Understanding of Java programming language is a plus but not mandatory.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Actively engage with projects to automate key FinOps processes – such as existing Show Back/Charge Back process with internal systems (SAP)
- Improve company’s use of existing FinOps tools and drive selection and implementation of best-in-class tooling to close maturity gaps
- Maintain and continue developing FinOps requirements & standards to support achieving overall FinOPs strategy including providing input to engineering teams for new technology coming on to the platform(s)
- Strong Financial analysis with the ability to develop and present financial analysis of a client’s spend and make related recommendations.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in both technical and non-technical contexts
- Deep passion for cloud technology and ability to articulate the cloud value proposition in both technical and financial aspects
- Skilled at building relationships at all levels internally, with vendors and within FinOps community
- Persistent, tenacious and ability to navigate challenging business situations constantly finding opportunities to drive value
- Proficient working understanding of AWS and Azure cloud computing platform, products, and pricing.
- Support public cloud monthly cloud billing, processing and digitalized reporting with accounting and finance
- Support stakeholders in understanding their cloud spend based on their business roadmap and budgeted forecast.
- Collaborate in public cloud monthly demand planning & forecasting, application migration milestone commitment, budget variance and anomalies reporting to understand cloud spend commitment
- Bachelor degree or relevant experience
- Certifications: AWS Cloud Practitioner, FinOps Practitioner, FinOps Professional (or relevant experience)
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams, familiarity with Atlassian Jira Cloud
- Experienced with public cloud forecasting, cost management and optimization on AWS and Azure
- Familiarity with Finance principles, corporate accounting and finance process
- Advanced in AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Billing Console, Microsoft Excel.
- Preferred experience with Microsoft Power BI, Atlassian Confluence
- Strong organizational skills, and the ability to facilitate stakeholder meetings and drive to decisions
- Ability to influence and enable stakeholders across multiple functional areas to drive change
- Must have a collaborative and participative management style
- Position is hybrid/remote, with ability to travel to Bay Area headquarters 1-2 times a month
