RED-Rochester is a multi-utility generation plant and district energy supplier to one of the world’s most comprehensive industrial parks: the Eastman Business Park. Supporting a 1,200-acre campus, RED-Rochester has the utilities, infrastructure, technical services, support services, space and complementary regional resources to benefit a wide range of industry verticals. We are seeking an Chilled Water Plant Supervisor who enjoys the challenge of maintaining a water systems infrastructure with an industrial setting. Our infrastructure consists of a blend of classic and modern industrial assets and requires a person with broad industrial and water utilities expertise – able to instruct and advise others; able to manage both up and down the organization; and able to work collaboratively with other departments to achieve success.
The Chilled Water Plant Supervisor at RED Rochester is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and supervision of the site's complex chilled water systems. This includes six distinct chilled water loops: one 9°F brine system, two 40°F loops, one 43°F loop, and two 45°F loops. The Supervisor ensures the efficient and reliable production and distribution of chilled water across RED Rochester’s extensive campus, which supports a diverse range of industrial and commercial tenants. This role leads a team of skilled technicians and operators, collaborates with other utility and facility departments, and ensures strict compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Oversee the daily operations of the chilled water plant, ensuring optimal performance and minimal downtime.
•Supervise, lead, and mentor a team of plant operators and maintenance technicians; assign tasks, set performance goals, and monitor work progress.
•Conduct regular team meetings to ensure communication and updates on ongoing projects or issues.
•Manage the production and distribution of chilled water to various buildings across campus, ensuring temperature control standards are met.
•Monitor system performance, overseeing necessary adjustments to maintain efficiency and meet campus cooling demands.
•Schedule preventative maintenance on chilled water plant equipment, including chillers, cooling towers, pumps, controls, and associated systems; ensure that all equipment is maintained according to manufacturer specifications.
•Oversee the troubleshooting of equipment failures; coordinate repairs and replacements as needed.
•Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal environmental regulations regarding water usage, emissions, and refrigerants.
•Maintain accurate logs and documentation for regulatory compliance and auditing purposes.
•Promote and enforce safe work practices within the chilled water plant and across campus facilities.
•Collaborate with efforts to optimize energy usage and minimize operational costs.
•Track and report energy consumption, suggesting improvements for sustainability and efficiency.
•Prepare and submit regular reports on chilled water plant performance, maintenance activities, and system status.
•Communicate effectively with other departments and stakeholders, providing updates on system outages or disruptions.
•Assist with the planning, installation, and commissioning of new chilled water systems and upgrades to existing infrastructure.
•Assist in developing and managing the budget for chilled water plant operations.
•Assist with the operation and monitoring of the RED Rochester Industrial Water Plant to ensure consistent water quality and reliable system performance for industrial users.
•Support the operation and maintenance of underground pipe distribution systems for fire main, industrial water and potable water.
Education and/or Experience:
•Applicable Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
•General computer application experience (Microsoft Office 360, Google® Office or comparable) Auto-Cad® experience preferred, Adobe Acrobat® experience also accepted.
•CMMS Software experience (SAP®, ORICLE®, or preferred MAXIMO®)
•5-years of field experience working on or around commercial chilled water systems
•5-years experience working as a manager or supervisor
Qualifications or Licenses:
•Immediately obtain OSHA 10hr certification.
•Must have an unencumbered valid NYS drivers’ license
•EPA certification for refrigerants handling

Work Environment: Must go in-the-field on jobs to supervise employees working outside in all weather conditions from street level to roof tops. Working inside in extreme conditions from basements to rooftops and above including inspections of cooling towers. Possibility of temperatures ranging from extreme cold to over 100 degrees. Work takes place in chemical areas, noisy areas and areas that may be very dirty. Also supervising employees operating heavy-duty machinery and vehicles including boom-lifts (worker lifts), scissors lifts, fork trucks and power-walkie trucks.
Physical Demands: Must go in-the-field on jobs to supervise and assist employees at times requiring strenuous effort, climbing, stair climbing, and crawling to accomplish equipment isolation and movement of material. Must be able to be in-the-field with employees working overhead which includes entering and exiting vehicles many times to get to different job sites.
