Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) has an immediate opening for a Cash Management Investment & Trust Administrator located at Columbus General Officein Columbus, Nebraska. Position closes on August 12 at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.


This position will report to the Treasury & Finance Manager.


Position Summary

The Cash Management, Investment and Trust Administrator is responsible for the Districts’ cash management and optimization of the District’s short-term operating funds and investments. Cash and investments are to be managed through research, analysis and execution of approved investment alternatives, policies and strategies in accordance with state statue and District approved resolutions. The incumbent will provide authorization for disbursements of District money transfers and process accounting entries for the department. The incumbent will develop investment strategies and cash forecasts to meet the District's operating and capital requirements. Additionally, the candidate will assist with the preparation of a corporate budget and rate outlook that complies with bond resolutions. The incumbent will also lead the administration of the District’s Trustee relationships including accurate financial reporting and timely payment processing.


Education, Training and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or related field

and five(5) years of professional business and/or utility experience with a preference for professional accounting or finance experience.

Must have the ability to work under time constraints, organize and lead several tasks simultaneously.

Must have excellent analytical, independent thinking, problem-solving, leadership and decision-making skills.


Licenses and/or Certifications

As an authorized signatory of the District, the incumbent must be eligible to obtain a public official bond and allow the Resource Planning and Risk Management group to take the necessary steps to obtain such bond.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manage the District’s cash and investments to ensure funds are available to meet financial obligations and payments. Work cooperatively with business units to authorize needed money transfers, electronic payments, and disbursements. Manage District’s short term and intermediate term investments of cash assets in compliance with investment policy statement, bond covenants and the District approved resolutions.

Maintain effective relationships with bankers, brokers and trust officers to ensure effective cash management services and competitive price negotiations.

Lead month end treasury close of all District cash and investment accounts. Collaborate with District business units to ensure accurate financial reporting.


Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records to ensure proper financial reporting of District funds, maintain cash management and investment portfolio records and statistics. Lead the analysis of required quarterly performance reporting of the District’s investments to the Board.

Facilitate the daily cash report which includes depositing, posting and recording of incoming receipts, outgoing payments, and bank transfers from the District’s bank accounts. Collaborate with business units by acting as a liaison for any accounts receivable issues, assisting with the resolution of bank fraud alerts and exceptions. Manage the printing of check runs for accuracy and punctual distribution, download monthly and daily bank files for reconciliations, and work cooperatively with all business units as needed.

Work accurately and timely with external auditor requests.

Responsible for monitoring and maintaining schedules for other post-employment benefit trusts (OPEB) administration. Ensure the District complies with the OPEB investment guidelines per the investment policy statement. Work effectively and professionally with trustee, investment consultant, fund managers and OPEB committee members. Work cooperatively with District business units to process and record all benefit requests for deposits and withdrawals, authorize disbursements, and confirm payments are processed timely and accurately. Maintain records and post journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting. Participate in and support quarterly committee meetings by scheduling and distributing quarterly reporting information to committee members. Support annual audit requests in an accurate and timely manner.


Responsible for monitoring and maintaining schedules for the nuclear decommissioning trusts (NDT) administration. Ensure the District complies with the NDT investment guidelines per the investment policy statement. Work cooperatively with internal audit to provide the necessary reporting information to satisfy all annual audit requirements. Work effectively and professionally with trustee, investment consultant, fund managers and NDT committee members. Maintain records and post journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting. Participate in and support quarterly committee meetings by scheduling and distributing quarterly reporting information to committee members.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.


Pay Grade - 14 Monthly

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $7,979.00 - $10,173.00


Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
