Platt Builders is an award-winning residential renovation and custom cabinetry company based in Ayer, MA. We work with clients all throughout MetroWest/Middlesex County. This supervisory role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of our high-end cabinetry production as well as the general operation of the shop as an integral part of the overall company. You will plan the schedule, order the material, and oversee the production of cabinetry in a timely and on-budget manner, collaborate with the Project Managers and Lead Carpenters for installation of cabinetry, and manage the shop team while creating a safe, fun, and highly productive team environment. This role is a key part of the entire company.

· This role is primarily about people, managing, communicating, motivating – we are looking for someone who has experience and skills as a people manager,
· The Shop Foreman must be a gifted cabinetmaker – someone who has great hand skills and the mental gifts to go along with them. You don’t have to be better at everything than anyone else here but you do have to have a love of the craft and great skills.
· Experience with teaching & training is a plus
· Ability to communicate electronically, maintain and track information; ability to work in CAD and other programs or learn as needed.
· In-depth working knowledge of cabinetry construction, finishing, and installation; including materials, construction techniques, tools, equipment, and best practices of the cabinetry making trade
· Experience reading plans, cut sheets, parts lists, and diagrams
· Experience with and knowledge of wood species and wood movement
· Experience with finishes, dyes, stains, and coatings is a plus
· Ability to perform cabinetry & finishing work to Platt standards
· Ability and willingness to work extended hours as needed – hopefully this is a rarity
· Ability to perform physically demanding work as required, including the ability to lift 100 pounds.
· Good understanding of professional cabinet shop machinery, the ability to do simple maintenance tasks, and the management of third-party machinery technicians

Responsible for repairs and maintenance to keep all tools/equipment functional and safe
Responsible for safety training and adoption by all of your direct reports
Help maintain our culture of constant personal and professional improvement
Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of new hires
Assist with management and training of Platt Cabinetry personnel
Responsible for performance reviews of all shop craftsmen
Responsible for maintaining the Platt Cabinetry production schedule
Work with Director of Cabinetry to forecast production availability
Work with Shop Drafters & Director of Cabinetry to design and engineer projects
Build and maintain relationships with vendors to strengthen Platt Cabinetry’s ability to source materials, get vendor support and warranties, and receive preferred pricing
Manage ordering and inventory as needed to maintain efficient workflow
Responsible for project production (on-time and on-budget completion)
Responsible for coordination with Field- PM’s, LC’s, Site Support- for on time delivery
Work in production as needed to execute projects on time, on budget, and to quality standard
Work with Platt Cabinetry personnel, Shop Drafter, and Director of Cabinetry to maintain an intense drive for constant improvement and efficiency
Maintaining Platt standard processes; adopted & executed by all
Address questions or concerns during production to maintain efficient workflow
Drive conversations around continuous improvement and evolution from “what we learned” on each project
Work with Director of Cabinetry on future planning & investment planning
