The BI Engineer (Contractor) will establish the technical foundation for EWN’s business intelligence program, ensuring data from multiple systems can be reliably ingested, transformed, and consumed via Power BI. This role combines hands-on technical delivery with a strong focus on documentation, knowledge transfer, and long-term sustainability for our internal team.
- Architect and implement BI pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake, and Power BI.
- Define and document scalable BI architecture, standards, and best practices.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and the internal SQL team to support reporting needs.
- Work iteratively in short sprints, delivering value with transparent progress.
- Documented BI architecture blueprint (data ingestion, transformation, lineage, naming conventions).
- Working ETL pipelines from priority systems (Salesforce, HubSpot, product DB).
- Initial set of certified datasets and Power BI models.
- Full documentation in Confluence covering architecture, pipelines, and processes.
- Knowledge transfer sessions to internal Data Analyst and SQL team, ensuring clean handoff and sustainability.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience
- 5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Engineering, or related field- Expertise with Azure BI stack (Data Factory, Synapse, Data Lake, Power BI)
- Strong background in ETL pipeline design and implementation
- Experience with data modeling, lineage, and best practices documentation
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead knowledge transfer sessions
- Experience integrating data from Salesforce, HubSpot, and product databases
- Strong SQL skills and collaboration experience with database teams
- Familiarity with Confluence or similar documentation platforms
- Prior consulting or contractor experience setting up BI foundations
- Knowledge of Agile/sprint-based delivery models
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Status: Short-Term Contract (3–4 months, potential to extend based on need)Contract Type: This is a 1099 independent contractor position, not an employment role. The selected individual will be responsible for managing their own taxes, insurance, and related business expenses. As a 1099 contractor, you’ll have the flexibility to define your own work setup and schedule within agreed project milestones and deliverables.
