Position

Benefits Specialist, Edmonton

Location and Reporting Structure

Reporting to the Supervisor, Payroll & Benefits, this position will be based in the Edmonton Office, Canada.

Responsibilities

- Administer and maintain employee benefits programs including Extended Health, Dental, Life Insurance, LTD, AD&D, Critical Illness, RRSP, TFSA, Health Spending Accounts (HSA), Virtual Care, and Employee & Family Assistance Programs (EFAP);

- Prepare and file statutory and regulatory documents (T4s, ROEs, year-end reports, and benefits reconciliations) in compliance with federal and provincial legislation;

- Process and reconcile benefits accounts; identify and resolve discrepancies with internal teams and external providers (e.g., SunLife);

- Perform reconciliations between SuccessFactors, Avanti, and SunLife to ensure accuracy of benefits data;

- Support payroll inbox management, including proper filing and follow-up;

- Manage SunLife billing and payments, including Health Care Spending Account (HCSA) administration;

- Provide employees with clear communication on benefit programs, responding to inquiries and guiding them through complex issues; and

- Act as back-up for payroll processing when required.

Desired Competencies and Requirements

- Five (5) years of experience performing benefit administration, preferably in heavy industry or mining;

- Post-secondary Diploma in Business Administration or Accounting;

- Organizational aptitude, strong prioritization capabilities and demonstrated proficiencies in detailed review; and

- Proficient in HRIS and payroll systems such as Avanti, SAP, and SuccessFactors.
