About This Job


What’s the role

The Benefits Consultant works with the Health & Wellbeing (H&W) Benefits team and collaborates across organizational boundaries and with external vendor partners to operate a local Employee Value Proposition specific to health & wellbeing in the United States.

The primary intent of the role is the administration, delivery and maintenance of Shell US H&W benefits plans for active employees and retirees. This requires integrative partnership across multiple internal and external stakeholders.


What you’ll be doing

- Prime lead and day-to-day management of multiple US H&W benefits vendor partnerships for active and/or retiree plans, ensuring regulatory compliance as well as proper value and impact of the plan.

- Steward multi-million USD financial obligations in close partnership with vendors.

- Build robust relationships/partnerships with external vendor partners, ensuring alignment with our overall benefits offering and contribution to Shell’s Employee Value Proposition.

- Lead (with support) contract tender activities and oversee performance of Benefits vendors/partners.

- Manage several strategic projects for US H&W.

- Elevate communication, accessibility, and engagement of benefits to encourage appropriate use and improve perceived value of our local policies and benefits.

- Provide benefits SME support for mergers, acquisitions & divestitures and industrial relations activities as required.

- Analyze benefits/program offerings to identify and address areas of continuous improvement.

- Liaison with appointed internal partner(s) (example: employee resource group) to ensure collaboration, integration, and alignment where necessary.

- Ensure handling of employee information meets or exceeds all country legislative and regulatory requirements.

- Provide positive user experience for our employees and leaders through ensuring our benefits are clear, easy to access, and cost efficient to administer with the support of our external partners.


What you bring

- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

- Bachelor’s degree required, Masters/MBA preferred.

- 8+ years of experience in working with and managing Health and Wellbeing benefits—including focal point experience on different plans and with key vendors/partners.

- Experience in the energy industry is beneficial.

- Able to demonstrate a strong functional knowledge of core US Benefits Plans and their operation.

- Understands federal and state benefits regulations to ensure compliance with evolving regulatory landscape (in partnership with counsel).

- Experience leveraging digital tools in the delivery benefits.

- Awareness of/experience with benefits finance is beneficial.

- Proven ability to take a leading/coordinating role on significant benefits initiatives, managing input from multiple contributors.

- Maintains knowledge of US H&W benefits market trends and innovative solutions.

- Demonstrates strong interpersonal competence and creative strength to develop collaborative partnerships – internal and external.

- Desire to participate in benefits strategy development and plan design.

- Works with autonomy, using sound judgement to determine when issues must be escalated.

- Ability to effectively manage projects, both project/Shell-specific and ongoing implementation through vendor teams.

- Capability to understand complex benefits issues and engage appropriate stakeholders to resolve.

- Capacity to rapidly acquire understanding of an issue/business driver to scope potential solutions.

- Proven ability to create and promote relationships of trust and respect.

- Ability to deliver consistent, value-added presentations organization wide.

- Ability to work within a complex landscape, including one characterized by different perspectives and views and opinions.


What we offer

The base salary range for this position is $113,000 - $169,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
