The Lansing Board of Water & Light has two openings for Auxiliary Gas Plant Chiller Operators at Delta Energy Parkin Lansing, MI as part of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, AFL-CIO, Local Union 352.

Position Summary
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Delta plant, REO Town Cogeneration Plant and the Peffley Chilled Water Plant and assists with the training of other operators.
Essential Functions
•Performs the required activities for the Delta plant, REO Town Cogeneration Power Station and the Peffley Chilled Water plant, including the operation and performance monitoring of all equipment along with testing and treatment of plant water chemistry.
•Performs complete and accurate observation and interpretation of all electric, chilled water and combustion production process indicators.
•Takes log readings, maintains complete and accurate log sheets and other records as required.
•Operates various control system equipment associated with combustion, boiler temperature, pressure, air flow, feed water, electric generators, electric and house water service systems.
•Initiates and performs mechanical and electrical LOTO correctly.
•Maximizes plant efficiency, by adhering to equipment safety practices, environmental requirements and long-term operation of the plant.
•Communicates information related to operating conditions verbally, in writing, with digital devices and computers.
•Troubleshoots and fills out work request for maintenance of malfunctioning equipment.
•Assists in developing and defining operational policies, procedures and training for plant operations.
•Responds quickly to abnormal plant conditions and performs other duties as necessitated by job responsibilities.
•Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear personal protective equipment as required.
•Attends training for safety awareness and skills improvement as required by Supervisor, BWL or governmental agency, such as MIOSHA.

Required of External Applicants:
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Ability to make quick decisions without management input when needed
•Required to pass Work-Keys general skills assessments (Workplace Documents and Graphic Literacy, 4 or higher to pass) and the Bennett Mechanical aptitude test (min. 49 of 68 questions correct to pass; this test is timed)
•The GPCO will be required to pass a final hands-on evaluation upon completion of training
•Must be able to work all shifts including shifts as Relief Operator
Required Of Internal Applicants
•Must pass Work-Keys (Workplace Docs and Graphic Literacy, 4 or higher to pass) and Bennett Assessment (min. 49 of 68 questions correct to pass; this test is timed)
Preferred Qualifications
•Knowledge of the ABB 800 XA Power Plant Operation Control System
•Experience with Aero-derivative combustion turbines (LM 2500, LM6000, Rolls-Royce RB211, etc.)
•Cogeneration experience (with external steam customers)
•CCGT commissioning/start-up experience
Other Requirements
The GPCOA is a forced progression into the GPCO classification, conducted and filled in the following manner.
•Qualified Auxiliary Operators in Board seniority order will be offered the GPCO job opening first.
•If the senior qualified operator declines the GPCO opening, the position will be offered in seniority sequence until the position is filled.
•If the GPCO opening is not voluntarily filled by seniority, then the qualified Auxiliary operator with the lowest Board seniority will fill the position.
Physical Requirements
•Must be able to climb stairs and ladders at heights up to 100 feet.
•Must be able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
•Needs ability to manipulate various size components from valves to small electrical switches to computer keyboards as well as perform chemical sampling procedures.
•Will need to complete work both above and below shoulder level.
•Must have the ability to distinguish between colors and hear various alarms associated with plant equipment.

•Plant conditions include temperature and humidity changes, noise, and dust.
