Under the general direction of the Operations Supervisor, responsible for the operation of a combined cycle (4 combustion turbines on 1 steam turbine) in a responsible, safe, and environmentally friendly manner to enhance generation, while maintaining steam generation responsibilities of the Channelview Cogeneration Plant. The primary responsibility of this job is to conduct plant operator functions safely, reliably, efficiently and in full compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures of the plant.
How You’ll Make an Impact
•Operate various manual valves throughout the plant site. Align plant equipment, make necessary adjustments to plant systems / equipment as directed by Control Room Operator. Understands and executes equipment clearance (LOTO) procedures, as well as Work Authorization / Confined Space / Hot Work Permits
•Performs water analysis of HRSG water and makes necessary adjustments to chemical feed to maintain water quality to within desired specifications.
•Works in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations up to 150 feet. Works in all temperatures and climate conditions
•Operates various computer systems (DCS / PLC) to receive, comprehend, and input data. Able to complete site specific Plant Operator Qualifications within 6 months of hire date, and able to complete Head Operator Qualifications within 2 years after qualifying as Plant Operator.
•Completes appropriate rounds, readings, and equipment PM’s and other inspection documentation. Follows safety / environmental rules and regulations.
•Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts (12 hour) and response to call outs when necessary. Available to work overtime both scheduled and unscheduled, on days off and beyond regular work schedule, including holidays, nights, and weekends when required. Promotes the Company’s HSE vision through actions and conduct.
What You Bring
•High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
•Five years of experience as a plant operator in a power plant environment (Combined Cycle Combustion Turbine experience preferred)
•Ability to read and understand P&ID’s, schematic diagrams, electrical and mechanical drawings, and procedure and technical manuals.
•Ability to read, write and speak in the English Language. Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office programs and ability to complete operational spreadsheets and print or email as needed.
•Ability to work at various heights from aerial lifts, ladders, scaffolding and in areas of high noise and temperature extremes.
