Associate General Counsel (Regulatory West)

The Associate General Counsel – West Regulatory will lead the legal support for regulatory matters for the AEP utilities and transmission companies in AEP’s western footprint at the state level, including (1) supervising and developing the team of regulatory counsel representing AEP’s operating companies in state regulatory matters; (2) representation of operating companies before state commissions in in collaboration with local AEP counsel; (3) providing counseling and advice on matters involving state policy and regulation; (4) providing counseling and advice on corporate initiatives involving regulatory issues; (5) collaboration with attorneys who represent AEP’s operating companies, Electric Transmission Texas (ETT) and Transcos in AEP's western jurisdictions; (6) developing and implementing legal and regulatory strategies to produce more consistently successful outcomes in regulatory cases throughout AEP’s state jurisdictions; (7) providing counseling and advice on matters related to ERCOT and associated PUCT rule makings.

Applicants must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of regulatory law in west jurisdictions, and sound legal judgment, as well as a proven ability for initiative, creativity, good judgment and work collaboratively with other attorneys and business partners.

Exercise independent legal judgment, provide direct legal advice, support, research and opinions to senior management and appropriate staff personnel on issues such as corporate and securities, environmental, tax, real estate, energy delivery and wholesale/energy services matters. Consult with and advise staff of these issues as necessary.
