The Assistant Terminal Manager supports and manages the daily operation of the marine terminal. Will assist Terminal Manager in the performance of all duties. Responsible for the oversight and general management of personnel, equipment, and facilities for all cargo handling operations, including loading and discharging marine vessels, rail cars, and trucks. Also responsible for oversight of financial forecasting, customer service, and facility development. All of these duties/responsibilities are performed in support and at the direction of the Terminal Manager. In the absence of the Terminal Manager will be directly accountable for all terminal activity
Direct the safe and efficient operations in compliance with company policy and all applicable regulations.
Assist in the continuing development and training of the management team.
With the assistance of the terminals management team, direct the activities of the workforce equipment operators, customer service reps., maintenance personnel, and administrative/clerical staff.
Serve as a key participant in the operational and financial (budget/forecast) reporting processes related to terminal activities. Reports are generated weekly, monthly and quarterly.
Assist in the continued development of training/education programs for all classes of employees in order to further the improvement of the Terminal’s levels of safety, quality and efficiency.
Develop and report Key Performance Indicators to enhance performance expectations and customer satisfaction.
Other duties as may be necessary to ensure the safe and productive activities of the terminal and to meet corporate expectations and requirements.
Associate degree or equivalent management experience in an industrial environment.
Five years of; experience in bulk terminal operations and/or related progressive management/supervisory responsibilities.
Satisfactory driving record as determined by the company and a current, valid state driver’s license is required
Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and Outlook.
Well-balanced interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
Must be accountable and take direction from Managers; keep required work schedules, which include regular and predictable job attendance; focus attention on details; follow work rules.
Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.
Must be a problem solver with the ability to find resolutions.
Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision and/or direction.
Must be flexible and able to work effectively in a team environment and consistently maintain a professional and respectful demeanor/attitude with co-workers, clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
Must be diligent and proactive with compliance with company Safety, Quality, and Environmental programs.
The employee must be physically capable of completing and satisfying all training requirements as stipulated by local, state or federal agencies and/or Company Policy. Including standing, sitting, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, crouching, stooping, pulling, pushing, twisting, finger dexterity, climbing (ascending and descending ladder and equipment stairs). Reading and writing associated with required documentation, file updating, telephone and radio communication, and computer operation.
Required to work on and over water while wearing a personal flotation device
Overtime required and extended work hours which may require some nights, weekends and holidays.
May be required to work outside in varying and sometimes extreme weather situations.
Directly and indirectly, manages, directs and supervises terminal staff members, contractors, and other terminal resources.
