Coeur Alaska's Kensington mine is an underground gold operation located in southeast Alaska, consisting of the Kensington Main deposit, Elmira deposit, and other nearby deposits and exploration targets. The Kensington mine is housed in the historic Berners Bay Mining District which has seen over 130 years of resource development. The Kensington mine is located 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau and 35 miles south-southeast of Haines. The mine has a small footprint of approximately 246 acres and is accessed via the water on Lynn Canal or by air.

Position Summary
Reporting to the General Manager (GM), we are seeking an Assistant General Manager (AGM) to serve as the Second-in-Command (2IC) to the GM. The AGM will leverage extensive experience in the mining industry to drive operational success at Kensington. This role is focused on meeting safety, environmental, production, and financial targets in the near term, while collaborating with the GM to ensure the site's long-term strategic success. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical and/or operational background, financial expertise, and well-developed interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership•Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Kensington Mine, ensuring efficient and safe production and processing of gold.
•Assist the General Manager in developing and executing the mine’s strategic goals, focusing on increasing operational efficiency, productivity, and profitability.
•Collaborate with department managers and supervisors to ensure the effective integration of underground mining, milling, maintenance, and environmental teams.
•Monitor mine production and processing metrics, reviewing daily, weekly, and monthly reports to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
•Support the General Manager in implementing safety, environmental, and quality standards throughout the operation.
•Lead, coach, and develop key operational leadership personnel, ensuring alignment with Coeur’s values and operational objectives.
Safety and Compliance
•Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, MSHA requirements, and environmental guidelines.
•Actively participate in the mine’s safety culture, leading by example and encouraging open communication about safety hazards, risks, and best practices.
•Oversee incident investigations and lead root cause analysis (RCA) processes to prevent recurrence of safety or environmental incidents.
•Ensure that the mine’s operations remain in compliance with all applicable permits and regulatory frameworks.
Financial and Budget Management
•Assist the General Manager in the development and management of the operational budget, ensuring cost control and efficient resource allocation.
•Monitor capital and operational expenditures and work with department managers to identify cost-saving opportunities and areas for optimization.
•Support the development of cost-effective production plans and ensure that operational goals are met within budget constraints.
Strategic and Continuous Improvement
•Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives across all operational areas (e.g., mining, milling, maintenance, and logistics).
•Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and use data-driven decision-making to drive improvements in operational efficiency and safety.
•Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging employees to propose and implement new ideas that can improve productivity, safety, and sustainability.
•Collaborate with the General Manager and corporate leadership to develop long-term strategies for growth, asset optimization, and sustainability at the Kensington Mine.
Team Development and Leadership
•Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to mine management, supervisors, and staff, fostering a positive work environment.
•Work with human resources to ensure the proper recruitment, training, and retention of employees, focusing on skill development and workforce efficiency.
•Ensure effective communication across departments to promote collaboration, resolve issues, and achieve operational goals.
•Represent the Kensington Mine in meetings with key stakeholders, including local communities, regulatory agencies, and corporate leadership.
Required Qualifications & Skills
•Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
•Minimum of 10 years of experience in mining operations, including at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
•Proven track record in underground mining operations, with a strong understanding of mining techniques, milling processes, and maintenance.
•Experience in safety leadership and a demonstrated commitment to fostering a safety-first culture.
•Strong business acumen, with experience managing budgets, financial forecasts, and cost control initiatives.
•Proficiency in mine planning software, CMMS systems, and data-driven decision-making tools.
•Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage and motivate diverse teams.
•Ability to work in a remote, camp-based environment with a residential 4 days on-site, 3 days off rotation.
Preferred Qualifications
•Master’s degree in Mining Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
•Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
•Professional designation such as P.Eng. or PE.
•Experience in dealing with regulatory agencies and community relations, particularly in remote or sensitive environmental areas.
•Knowledge of MSHA regulations and experience managing operations in compliance with MSHA and other mining safety standards.
Work Environment
•This is a residential position with 4 days on-site, 3 days off schedule.
•The Kensington Mine is located in a remote area, with access provided by boat or aircraft.
•Camp accommodation is provided during on-site rotations.
•The position requires regular underground and surface inspections and working in varied weather conditions.
•Additional travel may be required for specialized training, vendor management, or site support activities
