Universal Stainless, headquartered in Bridgeville, PA, produces semi-finished and finished specialty steel long products and plate including nickel alloy, stainless steel, tool steel and aircraft quality low alloy steels. The General manager is responsible for leading manufacturing operations at our Dunkirk, NY facility (approximately 300 employees). He/she will be expected to meet corporate objectives through a safe, reliable and cost effective manufacturing operation delivering first quality products according to established customer service and business objectives.
Responsibilities
•Alignment of resources, initiatives and operations to achieve business goals and objectives
•Safety – ensure compliance with safety policies and rules. Promote a safety culture.
•Safety improvement –continuous reduction of workplace hazards, risks, employee accidents
•Compliance with applicable regulatory standards (safety, environmental, etc.)
•Manufacturing in compliance with quality systems and established process quality standards
•Customer service (on time performance, cycle times)
•Development and execution of operating plans
•Forecast, plan and schedule production operations according to priorities
•Management and coordination of third party outside processes
•Identification and implementation of improvements
•Cultivation of effective employee relations based on mutual respect (USW represented workforce)

•Leadership, direction and management of salaried staff and hourly production and maintenance employees

Experience Required
•Minimum 3 years’ experience leading a multi-process manufacturing operation including 100 or more employees and an annual budget of $60 million or more.
•Line management as first line foreman/supervisor in a manufacturing environment
•10-15 years progressive growth in manufacturing (“up” and “across”)
•Must have steel and/ or metals industry experience
Experience Preferred
•Line management in union and non-union operations preferred
•Active leadership roles in Lean and/or Six Sigma management and improvement initiatives
•Maintenance or plant engineering experience highly desirable
•Specific experience with long product finishing of steel products.
•Small Bar, Wire and Rod processing experience.
•Rolling Mills or Bar Finishing experience preferred
Education/Training
•BS degree in Engineering or Business or equivalent
