Reporting to the Controller, this position will plan, direct, review and monitor accounting functions as assigned by the Controller. In addition, they will provide timely and accurate financial reports to the Controller in accordance with established accounting policies and procedures and support projects to help maintain a strong financial position. They will also be responsible for accounting procedures, general ledger structure, financial statement preparation, and other accounting duties as necessary.
- Affirm the financial reports reflect accurate and timely information by monitoring the activity posted to the financial records of NHEC (New Hampshire Electric Cooperative) and NHBB (New Hampshire Broadband).
- Oversee the input to the General Ledger by reviewing the month-end closing and account reconciliations on a timely basis.
- Supervise three accounting staff; develop high performing team members, set clear expectations, develop an environment to support employees in obtaining the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. Conduct regular 1:1s an prioritize performance assessments and professional development with direct reports.
- Ensure all expenditures and receipts are reported properly by monitoring the activity of accounting personnel and their compliance with internal accounting controls.
- Monitor the accuracy of the input cost data to the construction records of NHEC and NHBB.
- Review expenditures for accuracy, legitimacy, and timeliness of payments.
- Assess the effectiveness of the accounting system by evaluating the output of the system, responding to requests for improvements/updates to the system.
- Assist the Controller in the annual financial audit and the preparation of the financial statements.
- Ensure the NHB annual inventory of materials and supplies is accomplished in an efficient and accurate manner by coordinating timing, thoroughness, and verification issues with purchasing/warehouse personnel as they monitor the physical taking of the inventory and the subsequent reconciliation.
- Provides ad-hoc analytical reports to the Controller and/or the VP of Financial Services/CFO by responding in a timely fashion to requests for information.
- Keep informed on regulations concerning the reporting requirements of NHEC and NHB by researching publications, attending workshops, and networking within the industry/governmental agencies.
- Support the strategic goals of NHEC by developing, reporting on, and achieving Balanced Scorecard objectives.

- Associate’s degree in business administration, finance or accounting.
- Seven years of experience in a progressively responsible financial and accounting position.
- Minimum of two years of experience in motivating, training, and evaluating staff to obtain the highest degree of productivity and be responsible for development of individuals.
- Conversant with the disciplines of data processing and information systems.

- A Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or accounting.
- Three additional years of experience in utility accounting and financial operations
- Experience with consumer accounting, financing, budgeting, forecasting, energy supply analysis, and business planning.

- Emergency Restoration
- Assistance with restoration efforts is required of all employees.
- Employees will be assigned functions to support storm restoration and for some employees that may be different from their normal duties.
- Such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays which may involve considerable extra hours.
- In order to meet this working condition, all employees are required to provide a personal phone number where they may be reached after hours. This number will only be used for internal purposes.

Normal office conditions, occasional overtime may be required. Positions eligible for a hybrid work schedule will be dependent upon management approval & workload, however on-site office work in the Plymouth, NH area will be required.
Will be required to work long hours on occasions, especially during major system outages. Limited travel required in the performance of work responsibilities and representing NHEC at various professional and association meetings.

The targeted salary range for this position is $102,681.36-116,770.14 with anticipated pay for new hires between the entry and midpoint of this range and could vary above and below the listed range. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of NHEC’s total compensation package for employees.
