Blackwood Solutions is a leader in logistics and recycling operations across the region—specializing in hauling wood poles, scrap materials, and utility infrastructure components. We are currently seeking a dedicated and safety-minded Yard Utility Technician to join our team at our West Farms location.

Job Description

The Yard Utility Technician will support day-to-day operations at our West Farms yard. This role is ideal for a dependable individual with strong hands-on skills across multiple trades—including forklift operation, carpentry, light fabrication, and welding.

This is not your typical single-skill job. We need someone who thrives on variety and can adapt to the dynamic needs of our logistics and recycling environment.

Responsibilities:

· Operate forklifts and other yard equipment to move, stack, and load materials

· Use carpentry skills to build and repair dunnage, blocking, bracing, and load securement supports

· Perform welding and light fabrication on yard fixtures, bins, racks, and equipment components

· Conduct minor repairs and preventive maintenance on tools, yard gear, and material containers

· Assist with inbound/outbound truck loading and unloading

· Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment

· Support general yard operations and assist other departments as needed

Skills and Experience:

· Minimum 1 year of forklift operation (valid certification required)

· Carpentry experience – dunnage, framing, bracing, and working with heavy lumber

· Welding experience required: Miller Trail Blazer (stick welder); Suitcase hookup for ability to MIG weld; Spool gun for aluminum welding

· Able to lift 75+ lbs, work outdoors in all conditions, and operate hand/power tools

· Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work independently with minimal supervision

Required:

· Valid driver’s license

· Welding Experience

· Forklift Certification
