Job Summary
Weld steel parts for structural, plate, and miscellaneous steel assemblies per shop drawings and Getman Weld Quality requirements. Fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms, such as machinery frames using knowledge of welding techniques and engineering requirements.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge, attitude, skills and habits required to perform complex tasks with little to no supervision.
- Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications.
- Use semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal pieces using processes such as FCAW, MCAW, GMAW, GTAW and occasionally SMAW.
- Ability to interpret and follow Weld Procedure data sheets. Manipulate welding equipment to match parameters specified by the WPDS.
- Operate manual flame-cutting equipment when necessary.
- Repair broken or cracked parts and fills holes as needed Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions. Identify and follow weld joint, adjusting parameters within allowable ranges per WPDS to assure weld integrity.
- Identify and correct weld defects prior to completing jobs to minimize rework.
- Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
- Train basic welders as needed.
- Keep work area clean, neat and orderly.
- Maintain inventory of parts and supplies used in area.
- May perform additional cross-functional duties as assigned by the department supervisor.

Education and/or Experience
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Maintain Appropriate Canadian Weld Bureau Certifications for the position. Failure to do so will result in pay decrease and possible discipline.
- Must be able to interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process.
- Must have 3~5 years of prior hands on experience in welding.
- Must be able to understand and use all related hand and power tools.
- Experience with flux core and torch cutting is a must.
- Must be able to work from verbal instructions, and/or work orders.
- Must have basic mathematic skills.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination.
- Experience with FCAW is a must.
- GTAW experience desirable.
- Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling as well as lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Experience with overhead crane and jib hoist
- Possess a strong mechanical aptitude
- Interpret measuring devices accurately. This shall include but not limited to weld fillet gauges and tape measures
