Great Lakes Energy is seeking a strategic and experienced Vice President of Communications & Member Experience to lead our marketing, public relations, member services, and energy optimization programs. This executive leadership role is pivotal in strengthening community engagement, amplifying our brand, and enhancing the member experience.
For more than 85 years, Great Lakes Energy has provided reliable electric service to rural communities across 26 counties in western and northern Michigan. As the state's largest member-owned electric utility, we serve more than 128,000 meters with a commitment to innovation, transparency, and member satisfaction.
Beyond electric service, we're committed to building stronger communities through robust fiber technology offered by our communications subsidiary, Truestream, and through our energy efficiency and charitable initiatives, including the People Fund. Our 300+ employees are passionate professionals who work collaboratively to deliver meaningful, community-focused results.
No two days are the same in this role. One moment you're shaping strategy or refining messaging for a member campaign and the next you're prepping for a board update or meeting with community and economic development partners. You'll lead a high-performing team, align communications and service goals with company priorities, and serve as a key voice in media, member, and public engagements. Whether you're solving complex issues with your team or spotlighting our values at a local event, your focus will always be on connection, clarity, and impact.
You are a bold communicator, strategic thinker, and inspiring leader who thrives at the intersection of storytelling, innovation, and community impact. You're a confident spokesperson, comfortable managing high-level initiatives while staying connected to the needs of your team and community. You bring a strong foundation in communications, marketing, or business administration, supported by a bachelor's degree and over a decade of progressive experience in corporate communications or customer service. Your leadership background includes at least five years of supervisory experience, with three years in a senior management role and at least one year reporting directly to a CEO. Your communication skills, both written and verbal, are exceptional, and you know how to navigate sensitive issues with professionalism and discretion. You're tech-savvy, familiar with tools like Microsoft Office, social media platforms, content creation software, and website management. Experience with public policy, economic development, or cooperative business models is a plus.
We believe our people are our greatest asset and our benefits reflect that. From the expected to the exceptional, our offerings are designed to support you and your family at every stage of life. We provide a well-rounded package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, parental leave, adoption assistance, tuition reimbursement, life insurance, and robust retirement plans – just to name a few.
