The Vice President, Reservoir Engineering will provide strategic leadership and technical expertise in optimizing the company’s reservoir management, depletion planning, and development strategies. This role will oversee reservoir engineering teams, guiding SAGD well performance optimization, reservoir simulation, and be responsible for corporate production forecasting to ensure the long-term sustainability and profitability of Greenfire’s Hangingstone Expansion (HE) and Demo (DEMO) assets.
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
· Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute Greenfire’s reservoir engineering strategy to support corporate growth and production targets.
· Reservoir Optimization: Lead the evaluation, optimization, and management of SAGD well pairs, ensuring sustainable and efficient production.
· Technical Oversight: Direct the monitoring, history matching, and simulation of reservoirs to improve production forecasting and recovery factors.
· Innovation & Technology Development: Identify and implement emerging technologies such as NCG (Non-Condensable Gas) co-injection, ESP (Electric Submersible Pump) enhancements, and well re-drills to optimize field performance.
· Regulatory & Compliance Management: Oversee reservoir-related regulatory applications and compliance with industry best practices and environmental standards.
· Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with production, geoscience, drilling, and regulatory teams to align field operations with reservoir management strategies.
· Economic Analysis & Forecasting: Evaluate reserves, depletion plans, and economic feasibility of field development projects to inform capital investment decisions.
· Talent Development & Mentorship: Build and mentor a high-performing reservoir engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
· Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Greenfire in technical discussions with external partners, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
· Other: Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
· Professional Certification: Valid APEGA membership with a Professional Engineer designation.
o Minimum 15 years of experience in reservoir engineering with a focus on thermal recovery processes (SAGD).
o Proven leadership experience in managing large-scale reservoir development projects.
o Deep understanding of SAGD well performance, depletion strategies, and thermal reservoir physics.
o Strong understanding of the application of analogue performance to derive forecasts
o Strong proficiency in reservoir simulation and modeling tools such as CMG STARS and GeoScout.
o Experience in ESP operations, NCG injection, and sand control technologies.
o Knowledge of Alberta’s regulatory framework and oil sands industry standards.
